I bought this sled used at what I felt was a good deal. I knew it needed some work and I thought it would be fun learning how to fix it. On my own, I was only able to get the sled started once. I had to hold down the throttle and when I released it the motor died.

The seller said the compression was 130 in both cylinders and it probably needed a good carb cleaning. Sounded doable at my skill level. I replaced the main and pilot jets and cleaned out the carbs. When I put her back together she wont start. I also purchased a compression tested and when I test it there is 55 psi in each cylinder. And I could be doing it wrong. I tested it on my van too and it was also low. Got it on Ebay. Might be crap. idk. I can try to borrow one from a neighbor when I see him.

It could also be possible I put things together wrong.

I am no sure what the compression is until I get another tester.

I do get a spark from the spark plug cables.

I cannot not see or smell gas on the spark plugs or the whole the spark plug screws into.

Gas is flowing into the carb. I am not sure how to test if there is gas in the bowls.  I did not see drain plugs like on motorcycle carbs.

You got offered help from Smurfy71 over PM. The way I am seeing it, the best bet would be to try to get Smurfy71's help over the phone. You would be far better off with a real live conversation.

It wasn't that type of help. Link to a manual and words of encouragement. Not sure I am at the point to lead the charge, still pretty green myself.

Put your thumb over the spark plug holes while you pull. If it doesn't blow your thumb off it's pretty safe to say no compression.

Maybe so, but from the advanced troubleshooting of correcting fuel pickup location and diagnosing misfires from backfires, I would say your colors are changing fast :)

Take the covers off rave valve and have someone hold them in while testing compression. The raves are in the middle position with engine not running. A compression test on a 800r with factory rave valve setup takes two people to test compression.

Would you mind shedding a bit more light on this as I have the same sled and I have 120 on PTO side and 138-140 on mag side. Wondering if I possibly have a rave valve stuck or just need the top end done before I take it to the mountains? Could a rave valve being stuck either way cause this? The previous owner said he only had 4 rides on the machine with newer motor But I'm starting to doubt him. First time Ski Doo owner and just want to make sure I am fully understanding of how to correctly perform compression test before I tear the top end down for nothing. Thanks!

I removed the cylinder head tonight. I can see the piston and move them when I turn the big wheel on the belt. What am I looking for now? The manual talks about a piston puller tool. Do I have to go buy one?

No puller required. Get the rest of that coolant out of there. Once you get the cylinders off, I would suggest you take them to a machine shop for someone to have a look and measure them. If they can be reused, have them honed.

You will need new pistons, rings, gasket and wrist bearings. You can do this yourself. Search YouTube for videos, ask questions here, but this is not difficult, I've done it twice now with no prior experience.

I originally thought that, hense the edit to my post, but I think it's the angle and we are seeing the edges of the ports.

I will try to remove the whole cylinder tonight.

Where is a good place to order the parts?  Is there a kit I can just get?

I was looking around for parts. Is this what I need? Is it a good deal? What about the quality?

That kit would work, price seems fair. Look up MCB, site sponsor.

Contact them and see if they have a kit for your sled.
