2016 4-tec 1200xs 129'' MXZ-X BUILD THREAD:

Been two years since my last sled which was a '14 800 etec, so I felt it was time for another build thread.  This time it will be all about my new 2016 1200x.   I spent a ton of time on the old thread which is still up for anyone interested in 800etec technical info or any DIY/How to stuff.   That thread will always be in my SIG below along with this new 1200 build thread.  Also Pete was kind enough to take all the HOW TO info and post it in the how to section of the XS/Etec/129'' area for all to check out.

I am trying to keep this thread alittle easier on myself, so im going to aim to do more video so I dont have to type as much!  LOL.    I am currently uploading a bunch of vids and waiting, but will start posting them here soon.

I'm starting with the track install on the new 1200x.   I'm installing the same track as i did on my etec, ice attak xt 1.22 x 129''.    I worked on the track today and got alot done.

I also have a ton of other cool things to install, or add over time....I will try to document it all here.   I tend to yak abit on video so you may want to just skim thru them...haha.

I aim to be as accurate as I can, but I am only human, so when(not if) I make mistakes I will try to correct them so this can be a good source for anyone looking to wrench their own ride. I apologize in advance for any incorrect info.

Glove box lid VIDEO....slight changes from my 2014. With window off.

Couple pics of window removal and lid....window pops right off for those who haven't removed one, and with window off you can open glove box lid to max, and slip the entire lid right off. Just slide it upward.

Pop out the speedo, using a thin feeler gauge down from top on each side.....unplug the speedo and the other plug under speedo.   Set aside.  Remove 4 TORX bolts, 2 ontop either side of steering post, and 2 down front near top of shocks.

After this, the hood slides forward and off easily.    See VIDEO:

Hood removed....very fast and easy.  Notice the forward clamp/Boot at airbox to intake, its a nice design and as usual BRP makes it a simple connection that is easy to remove or install hood. A far cry from that CAT!  that hood removal was brutal!

Those stock skis look skinny! I always thought my etec's did, especially compared to my buddies cat and Polaris. I might try the pilot R's on my xrs, but they look skinny too.

RockerDan,

I watched your tear down video.  A 2-stroke post will not clear the cam sensor on the valve cover.  I tried a regular 800 and a XRS steering post, both hit the sensor in the forward position.  Funny thing is, my dealer keeps telling me all "XS's" can got post forward. I asked even a 900ACE at the time. He started getting mad cause BRP told him it can and does.  I just gave up at that point telling him it wont work.  900ACE and 1200 steering post are the same PN.

Is the freeride post the same as the XRS post? A fella on here said the freeride post cleared. Maybe that was with the C3 forward post though... It's further forward. It's too bad doo wouldn't make it more simple for the 4 stroke crowd!

Excited for this build and to see what you think of a dialed in 1200!

Great info TT....I was wondering about this.  I liked post forward on etec, but honestly dont think its a major thing.  I did not like not being able to see my gauges though!  lol.

Ill remain post stock with this sled, and have the adj riser now for tweaking height at least.

thanks!

Dan
