bought 20 foot 4 place snowmobile trailer for cheap and I want to extend the trailer to have a 20 foot deck before the 3 foot v nose. In other words, 23 feet total bed length. The trailer is to short for 4 mountain machines so this is why I want to extend it. I know that some of you are thinking "why not just buy a 24 foot trailer"! Well a 24 foot trailer is about $5000 dollars canadian and I got this trailer for under a thousand. Anyway, My question is, How far back should I space the tandem axles in regards to the frame? I was told that they should be about 1 foot back from the balance point of the trailer. Is this true? Anyone have any advice on this? It would sure be appreciated.................

I have built quite a few different types of trailers and have found that if you put your front axle about 6" back from center, things will usually work out nicely.

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

As a general rule, a 60/40 split with 60% of the deck and load ahead of the first axle. cheers.gif

I was talking to a local manufacturer and they said it's a 60/40 split of the deck to the center spring hanger. In other words, to the point between the two axles. Sounds about right to me. Anyone have any other suggestions?
