Full Version: Lighting Coil needed 1972 Nordic 640ER

72nordic640er.
Hi, finally got my engine running yesterday after rebuilding it. Unfortunately I think I have a bad lighting coil. It put out electricity for a short while, then quit. I have the flywheel removed, examining it. Both wires are on. The coil wires have been hit with something in the past, they are not broken, but I'm pretty sure I need a replacement coil. The part number is 4024341, which crosses over to 420865045. If anyone has a spare that works, or know where I can possibly find one, I'd appreciate some help on it.

Troubleshooting Accomplished
- When I ohm both leads from the coil, the meter reads about 1 ohm resistance
-Neither lead is shorted to ground.
-When I take the meter leads across the damaged section on the coil, the meter reads open which means the wires are not bare where the damage is.

Thanks.

Those coils RARELY goes down, unless damaged by a screwdriver or something.Try a bulb or test kight at the cable end if you got juice. If yes, then rectifier is bad or wiring is messed up?Dont remember,i think the had a seperate lighting swith, did you check continuty on the switch itself ?
