This is breaking news for me.
Im going to be riding a turbo 08 xp 800x this winter, with the RKTek drop in kit. I know there are many of you wondering how they turbo xp will do, I will let you know.
I have talked to Dave Halverson on the phone for a few hours months ago and he seems to know what he is talking about, and from our conversation I feel comfortable with his kit. Does anyone else have an opinion on this?
Or any other kit? luvmyrev.gif

If your running an RKtek head, run super low compression. High comp, and boost would be a deadly combination, unless you plan on running straight race fuel. Just my $.02

You may want to do some checking on exhaust port timing/duration. Especially if you delete the rave valves.

Too much port timing in a turbo app is undesireable.

I just bought a mbrp can from a guys named Ryan off of snowest. reason for selling because he turbo his 09 summit 800. He lives out in Denver Colorado. He said he contacted a few people before he bought the kit he did. Cant remember what one (might be the same as your) but was a good guy to talk to and i'm sure he would let you know what he found out. His screename on snowest is summitxtreme. Just thought i would throw that out their.

I know in the past one version of the drop in kit changed port timing with a piston height change. I dont know if this is the case with an 800R. I'm sure there are several options.

As long as the height hasn't been changed to raise port timng, it should be a runner. cool.gif

Its only a concern if timing has been made "more aggressive". The air fuel charge in the chamber could potentially move through faster than ideal. When using forced induction, less power may be made than when using say stock or lower port timing/duration.

Rk Tek makes a very nice cylinder head (much better quality wise than some brands). Helped install a different brand head last winter on a doo......... needless to say, not all heads are created equal. biggrin.gif

When I talked to Bryce at Turboboyz he said it was $5500 USD that even came turbo specific reeds. He seems to know what he is talking about. If I hadn't just bought an xr I might have gone for one myself.

I'm going C.P.I. but they are backed up right now.

Well decided to go with the R&D kit. I finally got back with Dave. I would have like to go with the turbo boys here in my state, but that variable pitch turbo makes me nervous. Ive worked with those in diesel applications before and just don't think they will give me the consistency I am looking for. I think it would be a fine kit for hill climbing, but thats not all the kind of riding I like to do. I want a kit that will be great in the trees, and boondocking. Dave Halverson said that his kit will make boost on a track stand, so if that s the case it has to be able to be very responsive to throttle. (And since no one has a turbo xp all I can do is take his word for it.) Those are not the only reasons I decided on R&D. The only draw back with him is that he is like two to three weeks out on a kit. But my wife is dragging me to hawaii from the 3rd to the 12th. So I guess I have time. And RKTek has some of my parts still.

hy i have a xp turbo and it works great it is a boost wurks kit a areo 53 work great in the trees o just got a blow off valve now havent had it out this year yet

turbo reeds are stiffer and dont open as easily correct? I remember reading about some guys double stacking their reeds so they were stiffer and didnt open up as easy do people still do this? I'm thinking about doing my own turbo just to gain some knowledge how do people supply the extra fuel to these carborated sleds?
snowtractor
for extra fuel you need to run a 12 volt fuel pump and projets

Josh, I got parts ordered already for your kit, so the ball is in motion. I'm always trying to stay ahead on parts, but it's tough sometimes.

The fuel is all supplied by an electric pump with the elimination of the factory pump and adjustable powerjets are installed in the carbs to fine tune the fuel delivery.

I don't think I can post a link to my website on here, but if anyone has any questions about the turbo kits for the Rev, Zx or Xp chassis you can shoot me a pm or call me.

You know, before I ordered your kit I started some threads, and searched more, on the topic of turbo ski-doos. I really never talked to or heard from anyone that had one or rode with one. So I was really nervous a to buy one because of all the bad "Ski-doo turbo lore". But since I posted that I have already ordered one and asked some questions, especially on snowest, there have been many people and tuners that have commented or private messaged me about personally owning a turbo xp. And two people that install kits for you. They have really eased my doubts about it.
So for all of those that have been searching out there for people that have these sleds turboed, they are there and very happy with the product.
My little mission when I get this and get it tuned is to take some video of it out and in the mountains and power. I am kind of a new rider, this is my 4th season, but I think I will still be able to show it off a bit. I wanted to see videos of these kits boondocking, where they are on and off the throttle a lot. I am not to interested in a turbo video of going straight up a hill, I could build a kit to do that. Hopefully if this kit is what people are saying it is, my vids will help show how responsive it is and help other find what I still cannot find anywhere.

I'll take donations for a HD video camera by the way. j/k wink.gif
Josh
P.S. Thanks Dave for getting my parts ordered on the same day I talked to you on the phone. I am getting more excited than nervous, for the first time in this process. Thanks again.
DWHalverson
Glad to hear Josh. I read the all posts and in the situation I'm in I can only promote my product so much before people get worked up. I'm here to infom people of the carbed turbo two-strokes, regardless of if they are my customers or not. The is a lot of misinformation out there and I can tell you it's been tough to convince people of the turbo carbed sleds. I have an efi turbo Cat to compare to and there IS a difference. The posative to the Ski-Doo. I am only speaking for comparisions of my turbo Ski-Doo kit vs my Cat. Not comparing others kits. I have seen what they offer and that's why I build my own. If you have any questions you can always call me. If I'm busy leave a message and I will call you back.
