Ok i pulled this 86 Formula sp out the mud in which it was sitting in for about 5 years. What are a list of things that I should do before I even attempt to start it? It has about 1500 miles on it..And did this model come with a electric start and handwarmers? The sled has them but the Clymer Ski-Doo shop manual shows nothing and tells nothing about them. Thanks

At a minimum, this is what I would doo for starters:
Remove, drain and clean the fuel tank thoroughly,
Refuel the gas tank with fresh gas/oil that is mixed 50:1, even if the sled is oil injected. This is insurance for the 1st time you run the sled.
Remove plugs and put some fresh premix oil into the cylinders and pull it over a few times to lube the internals since the engine hasn't run for so long
New spark plugs, and I would also Doo new fuel lines inside and outside of the tank
Remove and clean the carbs very thoroughly!!!!!!!

Good Luck let us know what happens

Thanks for your help, Do you have any info on this model regarding the hand warmers and electric start?

I'm pretty sure the 86 SP didn't come with Electric Start or heated hand grips. You can go to www.skidoo.com and download the owners manual for your sled. It may mention something about these items if they were optional equipment. Good luck and welcome to the site!.

I have a 85 SP. they did not come with electric start. If yours has it, what motor is in it? It should have a 462, single carb, black in color. Mine has hand warmers and thumb warmer. It probably was added later or at the dealer because it doesn't look factory.

The only other thing I would do before you start it is to remove the recoil ,clean it, re lube it and replace the old rope because it is probably not to far from breaking, they get rotten after a while.
If the sled sat in the mud as you say for a long time I would suggest that you remove the suspension and free up every pivot point and check every wheel bearing, I would guess that everything has rusted in the suspension if it sat that long.
This is of course after you get the motor running the way you want it.
Good luck with it!
