Full Version: XU Shifting Linkage - Check it!

I had the warranty transmission replacement done and decided to test it out. Hoisted the machine and did a few shifts. The handle went all loose and it seemed that the transmission was faulty. Removed covers and found that a linkage part (outside the transmission) had broken due to faulty welds from the factory. The broken part was the piece that goes over the stub shaft that sticks out from the transmission. It was spot welded in three places, none of which had any penetration. It is held by a spring pin and was fairly easy to remove. I rewelded it and had it put back in about 30 minutes. It probably would be covered by warranty but I wanted it repaired quickly. I would advise owners of this machine to check this part or ask the dealer to. If it breaks on the trail it could still be shifted with a pair of vise grips. My machine has 1040 KM and litte use on the shifting linkage. The new transmission seems to shift very smoothly, but hasn't been tested on the snow yet.
Note. The part in question can be found in the breakdown listed under Drive System Item #11 P/N 504152834 "Lever Weld" its called.

Wow, that's too bad. Very good that this happened in your shop and not in the field...

Let's get a pic up here.

There is many reasons why I did not buy the XU. What will it be in the next few years, what about the 1200. It will be a fast machine but with the torque it have, will it last. On the trail like a touring would not be too much of a problem, but in the bush???????????

All new machines will have a few warranty issues. In my view, it is admirable that BRP is standing by this product with extra warranty. As far as utility machines go, the XU is the only one currently on the market that suits me.
