is the Arctiva more of a shell or is it a warm jacket that would be good for trail riding

The Arctiva is definitely a warm jacket. They make a Comp 3 RR that is a shell. This is the regular Comp 3, which is insulated. It is confusing but the RR is the uninsulated shell.
