So I just put in my third set of plugs in my 2009 summit 800. I replaced the first set after about 300 miles, I figured they had fowled due to rich oil mixture for the break in period. Most of the riding I did on the second set was in warm spring conditions starting out at sea level, spending most of the day around 5000' to 6000' riding WOT for extended periods of time. I just pulled them today to have a look and was quite shocked with the condition they were in, heavy deposits and very black. The dealer told me they adjusted the oil pump on the 10 Hour service, maybe they didn't? My sled seems to burn a fair bit more oil than other XP's that I have ridden with, is this my problem?

I did a search and found some info about the gaps being incorrect on the plugs, and other guys who have said they are still running the same plugs after 1000 miles or so?

I get 1500+ miles, almost always a full season, out of a new set of plugs on multiple 800's. Just replace them once a year at season start. Oil pump setting and possibly jetting. But I set them myself, run Dominator full synthetic exclusively on the 800's, and lots of WFO. Do a careful check on your actual fuel/oil ratio, hand calculated. Think your fat on oil, but check first. They will foul lots more at very low throttle positions, too. And, what do your rave's look like ???

For sure check your oil fuel mix as most are rather rich!!!! Have mine set to 30:1. Do not go to lean as Doo cranks like to have plenty of oil and you doo not want your Doo crank to get cranky!! ohmy.gif

May or may not help but check your DPM. . . . . .Lots of DPM corrosion in the 08s and 09s

2300kms on mine and they are still a nice light brown..... Will be replacing them anyway just as a preventative measurement...... I run AMSOIL Interceptor and so far so no deposits on the plugs and lots of WFO.....

Your DPM is not working so you are running rich and that is fouling your plugs
Your sled should still be under warranty, take it to the dealer and have them check your DPM to make sure it is working.
I would also have check/adjust the oil pump

Thanks for the info guys! I checked the oil pump adjustent and it was at 14mm, my dealer told me to set at at 16.5mm and go from there. I pulled the Rave's and they were an absolute mess as well. As for the DPM, I pulled it this summer as I figured it may have been causing problems last year. I cycled 12V to it a few times and it seems to work properly, it goes click click click... soaked it in WD40 for good measure.

When I pulled the Raves I could see a fair bit of build up on top of the pistons, is this cause for alarm or should it clear up with leaner oil/fuel and air/fuel mixture? huh.gif
