No warranty, but I could trash his reputation...call him first???He sells sleds second hand from rental places out west.. I looked this machine over the best I could before purchase but did not expect this kind of carnage!!!

Put all your energy into repairing what you have. You can trash the dude all you want but you are still going to have to repair what you have. Unfortunatly you bought a used sled. Fix it yourself or find a great mechanic to do it for ya. Hopefully it will not be as bad as you think. Without spending alot of time you can turn him into your state's attorney general and have them look into what he is doing. Does he even have a business license for what he is doing? Good Luck
TGZ-Tsunami
once the 07 is fixed and updated it is one of the strongest 800.

I agree, I would just get it repaired then maybe see what you can do about the seller. If he sold it as-is then i'm afraid your probably screwed.
winter brew
If a broken motor mount and some belt debris is the worst of it, I don't see any reason to trash the seller. It's ALWAYS buyer beware and "Sold as-is" when dealing with used stuff.
gmoney284
You're all correct about "buyer beware", I was just a little upset last night finding that much damage. The frame is bent on the left side directly under the pto, there is alot of bent aluminum down by the footrest from belts exploding, the plastic cover where the wiring harness plugs into the ecm is cracked, 2 out of the 8 bolts that hold the y-pipe on the jugs were gone, and I'm pretty sure the motor has been pulled before. The engine having been removed does not surprise me with the history of the first year of the 800r, same with the y-pipe bolts. I actually can't imagine the seller knew any of this damage existed, I looked it over pretty good in a poorly lighted warehouse and didn't catch any of it. He may not look over things all that well, if they are straight and run he probably figures they are good to go. Going to do a leak down test on the motor, get a new motor mount, clean things up the best I can and ride'er!

Trash him man, I've been screwed by sellers before. I think maybe I expect a little more honestly out of people. Every sled I have sold I have told the buyer the history and any problems. A naive outlook I guess.........
TGZ-Tsunami
Man if the frame is bent then that could be a hole new set of problems that the dude might need to be trashed on. i would check the nun. if that is bent then i would trash him because that is a pain in the arse.

I don't think he is trying to turn a profit on bandaged up junk, who know's. Check out these pics, explains the belts blowing, the motor must have been able to twist alot. Plus the rubber engine brace wasn't even touching the motor.
gmoney284
Belt chunks under motor.
gmoney284
Bent frame. Leave it to a plumber to use a 2" J-hook for a straight edge!

YIKES huh.gif
wonder how many darn belts it blew??? i'd say something for sure otherwise it will happen over and over again!
DRD
Tough call. It's got some issues but it's hard to trash a seller when the people that made the junk in the first place don't want anything to doo with it.

I've had a few Rev's completely stripped down and put back together again, it does suck but good excuse to call up buddies and drink beer and wrench on sleds. I am going to contact the seller and show him these pictures, his response will help me decide what to doo next. His location does not allow test rides only start up and visual inspection, and when I got it home I ran it across the hay field. I didn't hammer on it really hard or anything but it seemed fine. I am really kicking myself for not looking harder. He had 4 07 summit 800r's and I looked them all over. I found a couple things on the other 3 and thought this one was the best bet. I didn't look closely at the frame behind the primary clutch where it is bent, it would be hard to see there with the belt and clutch on. My suggestion to anyone buying a used Rev is bring a exhaust spring puller and remove the pipe for better viewing, take off the cluth cover and remove the belt annd really check things over on the frame. Some sellers may object to pulling the pipe, but when spending this kind of money you should be able to check everything over. Anyone who knows much about sleds should be aware the pipe comes off in about 1-2 min. Maybe I would have noticed the 2 bolts missing in the y-pipe?

I owned four revs, bent the nun on all but one. That isn,t bad,2x4 and bang it straight, get the reinforcement pieces from doo or aftermarket.Every 07 spit out the exhaust bolts, get some nordlock washers.07 was the first year of that engine and pos clutch,I did 9 belts before I sold the pos.Check to see if it is a new block before you put it back together.Once you go through the heart ache of dialing it in they rip. cool.gif

I am really torn on this engine subject. I would like to have the bottom end rebuilt (12xx miles) but I have no idea what has been done to this motor prior to me owning it. I think I will install a t-stat, some guys say it's a must, others say has nothing to doo with the problem and the case needs to be machined larger and have the crank trued. Swap out exhaust valves for the new forged ones. Where does it end?
TGZ-Tsunami
There was a way to find out witch crank it had in it and if it was a good one or not. I think the good one had an R on the serial number. I am not sure might want to pm Gman or Yamapoldoocat. They would know for sure and also you could doo a search on here but sometimes it is easier just ot pm someone that has one.

You obviously know what you're doing, and recognize it's buyer beware. I'm big on personal responsibilty myself, if I f-up, it's my fault, I'm a nut up or shut up guy. And when I buy used, it's always up to me to find the issues, and accept all the risks of what I don't find, all part of the reduced price. The wholesaler probably didn't have a clue, either, but how he responds to your pictures will tell you immediately what kind of guy he is and what kind of business he runs. Perhaps he'll help you out with some parts or a give back of his take, but that's up to him as a businessman unless he or your state has some warranty obligations. Good luck, you know about the nun fixes, and in the end, I hope you have a strong runner out of this. It will be cleaner! And you know why it was blowing belts...

Reinforced lesson for all of us, when buying used revs, the inner and outter nun and bulkhead tell much of the sled's story, and pulling the primary is a necessity.

take the vin to a dealership and ask them to check the warranty history on it, that may give you an idea on whether the engine has been replaced or not.
evandaigneault
how much did you pay for it and how many miles if you dont mind me asking...

You can check the runout on the crank with a dial indicator. If it is less than .003 inches than you are good to go, especially if it has already gone over a thousand miles without major crank issues, and if the runout is to spec, then your crank should be good to go for a while longer.

$5495 for the sled. Got a response email back this am from seller. He was very sorry to hear of the issues and was getting in touch with his seller out west. We will see where it goes from here. The sled has 12xx miles on it, I will check the engine id # with doo on monday if I get the time. Thanks everyone for your input. I guess I should have cooled down and sent him an email before thinking of trashing him on dootalk, he seems to want to work with me.

I've bent that brace bad enough that I could run the TRA. I replaced the steel bracket, but you damage is minor. Check around, the front left ski is probably back a bit as well. Bang things around and pull the sled until stuff is inline again. Body shop frame puller can doo this stuff for you while you work on the motor.

Make sure the RAVE valves are the new style.

Since you have everything apart put in the 08 coolant bottle and thermostat, the parts are cheap and the 800R motor will run the correct temperature, like the 08 and 09 and 2010 motors doo.

Pull the computer and clean out any green corrosion in the pins. Load it up with dielectric grease and remount the computer, so water can't get at it, up behind the head light. See picture.

If you just run flat country (less than 2,000 feet in elevation change) just run the TRA and put in a DJ scondary helix. Good to go for a long time.

Just wanted to update everyone on my situation. Seller and I came to an agreement, and I just recieved a check in the mail today to cover parts (motor mount and hood). Once again should have started with a call to him before spouting off here on doo-talk. This guy could have told me to take a walk but didn't. Not pleased with finding these issues, but very pleased with the help I recieved from Mr. Ranta. Anyone in MN near the Metro area who is looking for a used sled, don't hesitate to look up Arnie Ranta Motorsports. Probably have to wait until next year as he has sold all but 4 of his 250+ inventory of sleds this year!
vintagerider124
does he sell sleds for cheap?
SummitREV
Glad to hear it, there are alot more good people than bad out there, especially in our fraternity of sleddom. Now, sled thieves should be treated like horse thieves...

I wouldn't say cheap, but his prices are not out of line. I was able to by a brand new Ski-Doo cover as well for much much less than dealer prices. Arnies sleds are all late model, low mileage machines. He also sells Karavan trailers.

Glad to see things some what worked out for you. I have had a few dealings with Arnie and he has always been a stand up guy.
