sorry if there is already a posting on this. if there is i didnt see it. but i just bought a modular 2 and im debating of buying the electric shield for it. but it comes at a fairly hefty price as far as im concerned. my question is do i really need it? has anyone had problems with them fogging up or freezing up and if so what kind of condiditons and temps do you ride? im just trying to justify buying the elctric shield is all. i figured with the breathebox they have it should be prety problem free.

My buddy and I had the same question last year when we bought the mod II. We both bought the electric to be safe. He rides with his on and plugged in and I don't use my electric. I rode 1500 miles in northern Wisconsin and UP of Michigan last winter and I had no issues with fogging or freezing with the mod II. Our other buddy just ordered one for this year. If I were you, I would use the helmet and not buy the $150 plus electric shield unless you seem to have fogging issues. If you wear the helmet the right way, you should be good. Make sure you crack your shield at all stops. I have tried all helmets, moto, bvs2, etc and this is the best all around helmet for not fogging/freezing and being pretty warm, not as warm as bvs2 but good enough. When I used the bvs2 I rode with the electric all the time so that is why I bought this helmet.

I did notice the pull down sun visor to fog/freeze at times. Most of the time it was fine but I didn't use it much. Overall, a great helmet.

I also have the mod2. I bought mine brand new this time last year for $250 from Dee's Marine online. I rode all last season with no electric visor and not once had any issues with fogging or freezing. As stated above just crack your visor at all stops and you'll be good. Also be sure to have plenty of the absorbent filters. Its no fun wearing that breath box with no filter in it as all that condensation pools and has nowhere to go. YUK!!! Awesome Helmet.

I bought an Mod II because I don't like to be tethered - works great no fogging freezing whatsoever. Great helmet.

Got the Mod 2 without the electric shield and I don't had any issue with fogging even with the sunscreen last year. It's great to ride without being connected !

I wear glasses when I ride. I use the original modualr helmet (about 7yrs old I think), it also has the built in sun visor. I never have any fogging /freezing problems with mine. I do not have an electric shield.

i had one two years ago before i tossed it because i rolled my sled going 80+mph. i never had any issues with it before that, or even for the rest of that weekend although the top of the helmet was cracked. even with the sunvisor. no fogging or freezing problems. i would definately say to get plenty of those absorb pads though, that stuff can get nasty with just paper towels and tissue paper!

My modular works great with no electric sheild except the couple of times I've been caught in the freezing rain or wet fog only hit these situations a couple of times both in the dark would have been nice to have the electric then

I use a Mod 2 with elec shield and wear glasses....way better than my Mod 1. I hate wearing the rubber mouth piece...but when I do I made up copies of the paper inserts with the absorbant chamos-fake that you can buy at Walmart to wipe your car down after a wash. I also cary a no-fog mask with me which also works great. the Mod 1 air holes would freeze up at minus 10f and at minus 40f I would have to stop and punch out the ice with a screw driver.
