We have a 06 tundra and have been working on the clutch among other things and realize there is no information on how to set the clutch alignment or belt tension in the manual. We have not been able to find anything on the BRP web site and would appreciate any info you have.
We ride from about 3500' to 6000' with most of our riding around 4500' or so. We have changed the main jet to a 170 and set the needle to P2 or the second grouve from the top. Do this sound about right for the altitude we will be running at? Temperature will be about -5 to -10 celcius usually.
We ride the mountains and this sled is for my 11 year old nephew. He is hoping we have got things correct so he can keep up.
Thanks
Russ
Hi,
The 2006 had a problem with the stock belt. If you adjusted it as the manual specified it was too tight and would squeal as well as turn the track at idle. So you had to adjust that belt so it was about even with the top of the secondary rather than almost 1/4" above as the manual shows. The other problem is that the stock belt is too soft and wears very fast. There are about 3 after-market belts to choose from that are much better and cost less. I prefer the LMX1095 belt (only about $30-35 but very tough). There is a lot of information on 06 Tundra clutching and belts if you do a search while in the RF forum. The belt tension is fairly easy -- two screws with lock nuts on the secondary. They push the outer sheave further from the inner sheave when screwed in and thus loosen the belt. With the LMX1095 I loosen the screws until the sheaves are all the way together and the belt sits high on the secondary (it is longer than the stock belt). It is so tough that it does not wear fast so no more adjustments to make - just buy a new belt when it wears significantly (a couple of seasons or more depending on how much riding you do). I have a clutch alignment bar but prefer to do it by eyeball. If you need a page out of the manual I could post it.
It has also been posted several times in this forum as to where you can download specs for the jetting and primary clutch weights. Try a search for clutch or jetting and see what you find. For the search to work right you need to be in the forum of interest.
