98 formulalll 700
I own a 98 formula 3 700 and just bought a set of 98 mach 1 pipes stock pipes and i was wondering what the stock specs were like jet sizes needles clutch spring helix any info would be helpfull

Set it to 99 specs 290 mains different needles, tubes, rave springs, retard timing you also need the pipe cradle so they dont melt the belly pan.If you have good traction 230-380 spring 19+ grams sraight 52 helix 286 ramp 25/43 gears Mine ran best at 8600 on the tach even with the 98 pipes. If traction is so so 200-320 spring adjust weight to match.Have fun putting those pipes on they really suck the first time.

Isnt 99 different pipes ? isnt timing in 98 already retard ?

I have the Jet Needle and Needle jet if you are looking for them. I switched to Rack carbs and don't need them anymore.

You might want to double check, but I'm almost positive the RAVE springs are different from a single pipe to triple pipes.

Yes and the 99 Mach 1 spec is for flatslide carbs.

Go to ronnies.com and you can look through the microfiche's to compare jets, rave springs and any other differences between the FIII and Mach 1 for 98

I already pulled up the two for you.

The timing on the 98 single pipe is higher you need to retard the timing with the triple pipes. The rave springs are different.I have a set of 98 pipes with stock muffler and dynoport stingers collecting dust If someone is looking.250.00 plus shipping

I dont know what the timing is for a 98 single pipe but 99-2000 the triple is .102 and the single is .076 so you may want to check into that further, this is for an 800 not 700.
Also, the single pipe rave springs are much stiffer than the triple.

From what i found out was timing on both mach 1 and formula 3 were the same is this correct .065

I am pretty sure the only way to change the timing on a 99 and newer 809 is by reprogramming the cdi or installing an offset key in the flywheel.........the 98 and older had an adjustable pick-up coil to either advance or retard the timing. I have a 98 ignition in my 809 and was told to run it at .083-.086 BTDC.

so how is this done

Loosen the screws on the trigger and slide it all the way to the left that puts you where you need to be.If you dont change the needles and needle jets you will burn down it is to lean in the middle.I did this to mine 6 years ago.I walked into Bickfords bought a used set of pipes and dynoport stingers. He gave me all the new jets ,rave springs and told me how to set the timing.Ive put 5000 miles on this setup and it runs hard and never went down.Do it right or you will be buying new pistons and maybe cylinders to.

what do you mean loosen the screws on the trigger and I am changing the needles and needle jets and did you change helix and do any clutch work

All the info is in my first post including the clutching.Go to your local dealer a buy new jets and rave springs for a mach1.The trigger for the timing is behind the pull rope recoil. It sounds like your knowledge is limited maybe you should just have a dealer do it.

Lots of different timing numbers here!

What pipes are you going to use?

I'll check my book tonight with 98 Mach 1 timing if someone doesn't get back to you before then. I want to say .083 BTDC but not positive.

Sorry, the 0.65" is the updated spec ... I thought I had deleted my first post (that was what I set my timing to when I put end dumps on it). It's gone now ...

I don't blame you ... the 98's with center dump exhaust are too quiet.
ck3700
I've got a crankshop silencer for the center dumps that I bought brand new last year( for $270), now the sled wears full crankshop pipes.. I may sell it.. It is the 3pipe into 3 silencer style, not a 3 into 1 can, yet not super loud either. It is like new. I also have center dumps, that have been shortened 1" in the cyl flanges, to make some more rpm, and horsepower.. They have been wrapped with header wrap, to build heat.. Heat = horsepower with these pipes. Make me an offer Via PM if interested in either, or both.

now the plugs on pto & center are black with mag burning perfect is it because on a stand and warmer weather

Black is fine with 50 degree temps perfect on the mag is not.You should pull that carb and recheck. Are they all new plugs?
