Topic: Joe Slow to respond - wife in accident
Posted: Today at 8:46am
Sorry to be slow to answer emails and not getting to phone calls.
I am at the hospital every day taking care of my significant other half.

My sweety was out Saturday evening and on the way home they hit a deer, rolled the car twice, Diana thrown from the vehicle, through the windshield from not wearing her seatbelt.

Broken pelvis 2 spots
Cracked left scapula (shoulder blade)
Two cracked lower discs
Two inflamed lower vertebrae
Shattered knee.
....I can't believe she is alive...doc's say "she" out of the forest" meaning she will live as long as she doesn't get a blood clot.

no visitors, hospital in lockdown because of H1N1 virus. I am staying with her at night.
...just thought i would let y'all know and if you see anyone on dootalk or snowest mentioning about me being slow to respond to people, maybe you can let them know I am in delay right now.

joey

Please - no need to respond in this post.

Terrible news Joey.......you have alot of sledding family that will be praying and pulling for you and your wife?

I am not sure with the medical system up there in Canadia but I know the bills even with insurance in the US would be atrocious.

Hows it work in canada? $5, $10 bucks what ever you are able to help a brother out who has been so helpful to all of us??

I know Joe already has a paypal account that we could send donations to in the name of helping his wife?

Just some thoughts........

NO Donations. I ain't like that.(thanks for the kind thought)

Doctor said she is out of the woods now.
Surprised at how quick she is recovering (I believe prayer does help - thanks)
This is what they have sticking out of her lower stomach.
External Fixation
It looks like a handlebar sticking right out of her stomach.
They don't believe they have to operate.
Off morphine now.
Kidney is coming around quicker than expected.
Knee needs to be operated on.
Backing off the drugs as much as possible (curbs addiction)
...but it's still a long nite. Im beat.

6 weeks laying down.
1+year in rehab.
Don't know when the next time she'll come home.

Here in the office today to try to start to catch up again.

It sounds like the big man upstairs is on her side. There is no other heart ache like watching a loved one suffer in pain and know you can't just make it all go away. I wish you guys all the luck and a speedy recovery. It sounds like she has a good man in her corner.

Take care of the family Joe. Family comes first. That includes both your wife and yourself. It is real easy to let yourself run ragged and that is no good for the family.

best wishes

Get well soon Mrs Imhoff, keep a positive outlook Joe

I know what it is like my wife was hit by a car some years back while tubing she was in intensive care for a month during the holidays and 6 months in casts and surgery's.

Me & my familys thoughts-n-prayers are with ya.

I hope she gets well soon joe. Those seatbelts are a 50/50 when I got in my bad wreck I would have been killed for sure if I would have stayed in the vehicle.

Hi hostile1,

It's good that you were not injured, yet contrary to the 50/50 chance, failure to wear a seat belt contributes to more fatalities than any other single traffic safety-related behavior. 63% of people killed in accidents are not wearing seat belts. Only slightly over 20% of people do not wear seat belts. To me, that means you are more than twice as likely to be killed if you have an accident and are not belted. Wearing a seat belt is the single most effective thing we can do to save lives and reduce injuries and death.

I have had the benefit of seat belts more times than I care to recall. The most severe, I think, was an end-over-end roll, where the car hit a tree upside down and backwards at considerable speed. The rear seat was ripped out of the car and ejected through the back window. The car was totaled. Lacking belts, I would have probably followed that seat. I got an abraision on my left arm from the cross-chest belt. Like yours, mine are only personal experiences. Belts are required in all racing, and the stats for highway use show that they reduce and prevent injuries.

It's possible that your post could cause folks to drive without belts, and the odds will be against them.

This is not intended to hijack concern for Joey and his wife. We all wish them well and a full and quick recovery.

Best regards,
MoPow
