Just got a good deal on an 06 Gade with only 1275 miles on it. It has the 800 HO Powerteck in it. Hopeing this was a good move from my sdi with 5000 miles. Let me know your thoughts. Anything that I should know? Thanks!

I have a 05 which is basically the same sled, bought it last year with less then 900 miles on it and other then the usual mods and personalization things we all Doo you should read this--> http://www.dootalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...=117364&hl= -- its 21 pages of carb talk and the short version is just about everybody does the 07 pilot and needle update and some do the remap also. Go right to page 20 for the DEALER BULLETIN. Anyway I had a slight high idle hang up till I bliped the throttle and the update goes from stock 17.5's to 20's for pilots and eliminates that hanging idle and the needle update makes it run a tad richer in the mid-range to prevent piston meltdown and for the lousy few bucks it costs its well worth the peace of mind you'll gain, I did NOT do the remap and have not noticed any extra fuel usage. There are a few people on here selling "kits" to do it, though I highly recommend using the right parts with no shims, get the correct needles & pilots right from ski-doo, the part numbers are in the article for everything needed and if you do it yourself its a easy job and takes about an hour. Other then that, you have a SUPER SLED I love mine.

I too ride an 06 800 HO and have zero complaints. 4000 miles on her with no motor issues. Like Mainesled talked about make sure you get the needle update and remap done to eliminate the midrange leanout that will lead to certain meltdown. If your not a hands on guy I believe the dealers are still doing it at no cost. Make sure you read up on and understand when to use the heated carbs. Think about pulling your oil pump and sending it to "Bigworm" for the bearing install. This will eliminate excessive oil consumption. Be sure to keep the RAVE valves clean, once per off season should suffice. Just a few off the top's for ya to look into.

Just relized this thing takes 91 octane. What happens when that is not available. Will it blow up or something if I use 87 octane? What about using that 104 octane boost in that situation?
jd06renegade
Nothing?

should be fine... I've had no issues burning "regular gas" when 91 octane wasn't available, but I always burn it when it is available...

20 pilots are not part of any organized update from BRP, it is something that many of us have chosen to run to get more fuel at idle, and then adding more fuel in the midrange through an extra or bigger shim on the needle. choice is yours to go bigger on the mains as well

the update you've done is not complete until you flash the ECM, I suggest you do that because the program you have now is designed for a different needle jet. or just put a .020 + stock .030 shims in the stock needle, with your 20pilots and 2 turns on the screws. consider bumping to 450mains as well by doing some WOT plug chops.

Man after going to the link for the other thread it makes me wish that I had never bought this thing. Never had any thought of blowing up my SDI. Maybe I should just sell it again. Are the 800R engines any more reliable?

Talk talk talk

Man I had one of those sleds...Was the best sled I had....NO issues great sled motor was solid, I made it into a backcountry and still asked for more.

Don't be worried this is a GOOD sled.

Just my 2 Cents...
