Couldn't agree more! I tipped a few sodas back with Dustin last season up in Hayward then some time messing around with the Turbo at Dave Dunns. Quality guy!! I will definately be working with him when I decide to pull the trigger on the turbo.

Up at the Mach Z shootout Dustin was very helpful when I needed a hand. He's a good guy but I wonder if you have him install a turbo for you, will you need to take out extra fire protection on your insurance policy?

Ernie got all your parts laying in my shop, going to start on it the 2nd tuesday of next week...lol.....You have to buy another ski-doo before you can build it!!!!! Any luck with the stutter yet on robbies sled?

I had to take a break from Matt's sled for a week, finally quit raining down here so we can do a little bit of fall harvest..only 2 months late...sheesh! Maybe if someone asks nicely Matt will post some pics of my progress on his build. I have been sending him pics of the progress till I had to do my real job for a while....bummer!

No luck on the stutter - I haven't had much time to play with it - but so for it doesn't work. I'm going check all my wirining next as I have it wired different then I did with the MSD - the RB3 needs a ground to activate the stutter - the MSD has the option of using a power wire which I just picked up off the brake light. If I get it to work i'm going to wire it through a relay so when activated through a toggle switch if the brake is on the stutter will be activated - just one of those round to it things, but I have a feeling I will have the MSD on it again.

Matt, pulled the head tonight as seen in the pics I sent you, as you can tell, this thing is built hell for stout. The engineering involved in building this engine is second to none. Although I would like to kill the engineers for the location of certain bolts lol! I will have it decompressed by the weekend and hopefully start on the actual turbo install next week...later than I had planned but that darn "real job" thing keeps coming into play.... bummer..

Robbie, i personally have 0 time with the stutter on the rb3 but you should be able to wire it in off of the brake light using a ground/breaking a ground with a relay??? I think?? So far the only complaints on the guys using the rb3 stutter is the range of rpm they are breaking up...dunno....btw....get ernie to buy a 1200....would you???.....please!...lol!

Has anybody figured out the stutter issues with the RB3 on a 1200???

I've got a friend that uses the RB3 on a GSX600 for racing, but he's stumped as well. Plus, the Rapid Bike HelpLine is a joke ... they have no idea what they are talking about.
skydog
Man like i said used it on Nytro it worked great and was very easy to use. It is the same on the 1200.... Must have Rapid Bike pro software.

Pretty productive day today for having to do my "real" job as well. Installed the header, turbo, turbo oil pressure and return lines, both of the turbo coolant lines, exhaust pipe, mocked up the intercooler, charge tube, throttle body, intake, ecu, pre cleaner and a few other parts and pieces. Skydog has a few more pics. Tomorrow my goal is to wrap up the install on the front of the sled, plumbing up the blow off valve and boost controller......stay tuned!!!!!

There is no air movement across the fins of the intercooler from a fan or air coming in when the sled is moving.

I'm always wondering if there isn't a better place to put the air intake. Every kit seems to have the air intake on one side of the intercooler and the turbo on the other side. As the air gets sucked into the airfilter it draws air across the intercooler from the red hot turbo. The air intake might draw some air from the nose, but for those of us that run the sled in lots of snow, the intake has no choice but to pull in the red hot air from the heat put out by the turbo sitting on the other side of the intercooler.

Is there no other way to get a better location for the air intake? The Yamaha system of intake and exhaust piping seems like it was built to have a turbo added.
skydog
How i ride it is perfect. Super cold air going in to turbo, then the next coldest air is hitting the intercooler! I might even add a few holes in the nose we will see. At 50-100Mph the air hitting the nose is alot more than you think. But you could put the filter where ever floats your boat, i love it where its at.

hahah a 3rd Merc on the cat, yea i know a guy who did it not worth the money, it kills the set up and bal. With spinning the props, weight, tons of drag from the center motor. (it is a true cat no center pod) I think he gained like 4-5mph..... The hole shot and mid would be insane with 3. But it is unreal good with 2. She runs 85MPH in a 1,000 from idle.

Thank you Skydog P.S. Does this count as 3??? haha smile.gif smile.gif
SkiDoojunky
There is TONS of room for air movement upfront and the grated plastic in the front is rather large to allow for plenty of fresh cold air, not even going to be an issue. the pic doesn't do it justice!

You are going to owe me a ride in that boat when this is all said and done Matt! I did the powerboat thing in the late 90's with a small scarab...fun while it lasted but when everyone traded their 32's for 42's-47's I was out! Too far out of my league! I went to the Ozarks almost every weekend.....not any more fastest I have been on the water was 116 on my buds 47' Black Thunder...she rolled pretty good!

With Dunn have H1N1 I am pretty sure I won't get the rest of my parts/ tuning bike today but I bet I still end up being able to fire it up....more pics this afternoon!

STAY TUNED!

Well had an awesome day in the shop today! At approx 5:32 pm Skydog's sled took its first breath of life as a boosted, yamaha, arctic cat, polaris eating BAD A$$ MACHINE. Heat soaked it 4 times and luckily not even so much as a dribble of fluid anywhere. Even on the test stand where it is impossible to build much boost that thing sounded wicked! It rocked itself as I whacked the throttle as if there was an earthquake! No doubt Skydog is going to be impressed with this set up! Now all I am waiting for is the Polar attack and tuning bike so I can write a map that is sufficient enough for him to play on the grass till it gets cold.

This was my first complete install and I would say that if I were to do it again with 100% of the parts there i could do it in about 12 hours by myself. Nothing overly difficult just A LOT of time consuming steps to ensure that everything fits properly and there are no leaks. The step of the head removal/cam timing was what I dreaded the most and it was a walk in the park with the proper tools. Once again this motor is simple....strong....and like I have said before it is like the 350 chevy of snowmobile engines! It is the motor that is built to be messed with...bring on the modifications!

Later in the week I will find time to complete his sled once the tuning bike and Polar have arrived, My b day was Thursday and wifey got my a new Flip Mino (pocket camcorder). You would think she can read my mind or something! I will try it out with Skydog's sled chewing up some sod on my 1 mile test strip!

Oh yeah BTW for any of you guys that remember I am expecting twins...I found out Thurs ( yeah my b day ) that I had better get to buying mini z's cause we're having 2 boys! YEAH BABY!!!!! It doesn't get any better than that!

Talked to Dunn today, he is back amongst the living, rebuilt 2 mach z's with Dale Larsen yesterday afternoon...looks like he is going to make it afterall...what a WUSSY!

Thanks for the Rear View of the Cat.Very nice.
You are right trips not cost effective at all But fun.......
Its all hole shot ,center engine is up too high for real efficiency even with a small center pod.
Had a 24' Skater with trips
The sound of 3 V 6's on the chip is something to behold.
Able to suck down 100 gal of fuel per Hr
Like the Junkie friends moved into bigger and to support the sled habit
Moved back into a more cost effective ride.
No worries about frontal air with the new venting systems out there now days if necessary.
If not easy to stick a temp sencor in the air filter for Proof.
turns into an issue fix it .....no issue,no worries.

Hey Fellers,

One of the other builds reported two issues, and I'm curious of you ran into similar stuff:

(1) Exhaust temp or O2 sensor bung was missing on exhaust
(2) Exhaust circuit has fitment issues

Maybe they've resolved them, but just thought I'd ask...

Looks great!

The bung was on the exhaust pipe..no sweat there...did have one little issue with the header but I spoke with Goldy at Powderlites and that issue has been resolved as well. My only complaint is those darn rubber boots connecting the air filter to the turbo. Cutting those CORRECTLY took about ten years off of my life! Cutting those was like trying to wrestle an earthworm! I think I invented a few new curse words in the process, but they are on and I think all things considered they look pretty darn good!

Black Toys.....didn't reall have too much liquid boost on this build...concentrating too much, mine is next and there will more than likely be more beer spilled than wrenches turned. Is your sled done yet...I need to see some pics! If I know you there have been many attempts at building a better mouse trap, I am sure that thing is BIG, BLACK and SEXY!
