Full Version: My first "Summit" built from a 2006 440 and a few mods.

REV*BARON
Picked up a nice 2006 440 that was trail ridden and pulled the motor out and replaced with a 800HO motor. I built my own tunnel extension to fit the summit cooler, made a carbon/kevlar hood, added PIAA lights, installed some 144" Ice Age rails, Polaris Assualt 146" track, 8" Avid rear wheels, added some Summit drop brackets and moved the skid back and down to fit. Painted the sled Yamaha blue and had the a-arms powder coated to match on the top ones and used a silver/black coating on the lowers. Put the Arctic Cat Fox race shocks with reservoirs on the front and used the 440 race skid on the back. 800HO Cudney Racing head with 14:1 domes, SLP can and prefilters, SLP EGT, Carbon fiber handgaurds and windshield from our own Dootalk sponsor (http://www.carbonsledparts.com), and a Boss seat of course to top it off. USI Tripple threat skis. 8" risers and a Summit X brake hose to reach the tall 440 bars. A blue Holeshot skidplate to protect it.

that's a lot of suspension! bighair.gif seems like it would do pretty well for freeriding... right_on.gif
REV*BARON
Yeah I met Jeff at Felker's. I can't say enough good things about the Felker's. After my first ride I came back and got a whole new recipe for my clutching. Hope to get out this week and test it out.

I always use the 440 chassis' for my sleds. I love the suspension and extra toughness built in. All I do is "freeride". I'm not a big climber but love boondocking and hitting some jumps.

If anyone needs a good clutch setup for the mountains....Call Felker's and talk with Lyn....http://www.felkermotorsports.net/testimonials.htm

The whole family works at the store and ride sleds. I'm soooo lucky to live only a couple miles from them. I stop in almost every day and meet new people. I should have moved out to Colorado 20 years ago. Now if I can just find a good paying job out here life would be even better.

Thanks for all the comments too! I love building sleds and tinkering with them. Anyone near Loveland needs help or someone to ride with just give me a call: 970-290-3057

Looks Great, Has that "Goin Postal" Look to it, as That was one of My favorite builds You did.
SkidooSteve12
Looks great Chuck!

You should test a set of narrow Summit a-arms and spindles. It is SO much easier to pull over and sidehill with the narrow front end even compared to my old 440X Gade without the sway bar. And I have the sway bar on the Summit still. Just a thought.

Wicked customizing that 440 tunnel with the Summit drop brackets and then relocating the skid with the 144 Ice Age Rails. Did they have to do the rails different for the 440 race skid?

exactly my thoughts, the new BOSS really does look good on the REV YE59.gif
REV*BARON
Yep the Ice Age rails are made to use the 440 setup. I'm a big guy....laying my sled over is easy for me. I like the wide front end for jumping. Going through the woods isn't too bad either. If it's tight, I just lay it over and go through sideways or if they're small....traction.
impunity
Very impressive, wish I had half of your mechanical savvy.
bgraff1
that hood is sweet! did you make it from scratch or build off the stock one? should make and sell those, i would buy one!
thunderdragon1
Nice sled I love the Ice Age rails. Is the hood from your custom shark sled from last year?
06rev800x
Nicely done! Love the blue.
REV*BARON
Hood is from the same mold as the shark sled one. I made a fiberglass mold off a hood that I used bondo on to get my shape I wanted. The Shark sled hood #1 was a plastic hood pulled from vacuum and the 2nd hood was carbon fiber off the fiberglass mold. The blue hood is actually a carbon/kevlar hood from that same mold and just painted blue.

Went for another ride today on the Range. 72 degrees in Loveland....about 40 on top with blue skies.

Nice pics and great color choice for you sled. Is this your first winter in Colorado Rev*Baron? Must be a blast being able to ride already. Your sled builds always turn out great.

Hey Chuck, Looking schweeeeeet - riding that killer blue 440 Modded sled - Great job - I took one look at it and said - Yup - That's Rev*Barons sled :-)
Eric's been busy in my shop - working on his sled - rebuilt his motor and powder coated a ton of stuff black - I keep telling him he needs to post some pics - it turned out really nice.
Me... well I tore my sled apart and started to install that Renegade cooler I bought - Got it installed and need to put it back together.
So a month ago I had a very bad motorcycle accident and completely broke my leg in half - tibia has a titanium rod and 3 screws in it now and the fibula is shattered to bits - broke bones in my foot as well.
I'll be doing physical therapy and hopefully be walking again by January ish....
Have to sit the season out and watch and hear about all my friends having fun - arggggggggggggggg.......
Just wanted to say hey - Great job!
Miss ya man - Take care - keep posting all your great pics so I can live life smiling watching my friends.....

Nice looking sled, great job setting her up. I like the blue color. I really want to move out west someday too, sick of this midwest junk.

AdrelineRush - That is a major bummer, I broke my back in March this year doing motocross, had weekly physical therapy but seems to be pretty good now. Keep your attitude positive and keep working at your excersizes. Ahh who am I kidding, you'll be hopping on that sled or bike long before the doctor tells you, I rode my pitbike almost everyday while I had my brace on.

Just curious as to why you went with the Assault track when so many guys (at least just about everybody I talked to that owns an assault) took off the stock track and replaced it with something different. Heard that the assault track is horrible in deep snow and boondocking because its so stiff? Sweet looking build though.
black snow
sled looks incredible!!! sweet, clean and simple always look the best.

Hey Chuck... Sled looks sweet man. Next time your going up to ride give me a pm and let me know I'm just up the way in Nunn. Looking for some new guys to ride with.

Greg
REV*BARON
Just got back from MN from 3 hard weeks of working 12-18hr days tiling my sister's new home. Yep....lots of tile.
Anyway far as the track...I was living in MN at the time and never new I would be moving to the deep stuff. Would be a great track in MN conditions but you are right....deep snow is not going to be the best for this type of track. Without a job...it's gotta stay on for now.

Greg....my number is:
970-290-3057

I'm helping my new neighbor tile and put down some wood floor for a bit, but soon will be able to ride again. I'm staying at Albany lodge for a week 1st week of Jan. with some guys I met at school last spring in Duluth.

Adreneline Rush....major bummer on the bike crash and broken leg. Hope it heals fast and good. Missing sledding season would drive me nuts.
