last year, I saw in a snowmobile review that cjmotorsport had lent a stock 1200 for dyno testing. they proved that the HP were different dependently from the temperature of the engine. 132 HP when the engine was cold and hot, and 138 HP when the engine was in its range of use. They said that these change of HP had with the correction made with ignition and the injection.

my question is: if we installs a thermostat 2010 to 150 degrees with the places of 180, will the range of use of the engine be thus colder and which by the corrections made by the ECU, there will be loss of power? would the reflash 2010 have to be put?

Good question longsled, I heard the 09 stat was a 170 though, could be wrong, I havn't had mine apart yet.

I doubt though a 20 degree drop from 170 down to 150 will hurt anything. I would think that when they get up in temp they would start pulling timing like a Yamaha. And I doubt this occurs till up over 212 or so. I would not think 150 is cold enough to put it into the cold start area either.

I've already ordered the new 150 stat. You all ready for the coming season?

I'm to install forged pistons and I'm waiting for my new turbo kit, my old kit is now sold. We had our first snow storm last week, so we will be ready to run in less than 1 month. Hope all my parts will be on time.

for the test I saw, The 132hp was done when the temp gage was at the colder position and just before the max. the 138 was done at 3/4 of the gauge.

I cant see where lowering the thermostat is a viable way of fixing the need for more cooler capacity. Granted it will give 20 more degrees away from overheating but Im not sold on this one. Whats up with tolerances inside the cylinders , I know a hot engine and cold intake charge make the most power. I added lots of cooler to my project, I have in my hands the colder thermo but am sceptic on changing it, for the said fact I do have lots of coolant volume now. What was BRPs intent with the 2010 thermostat is it being used on all models or just the shorties?

Kevin, why is it that you think a hot motor makes the most power? I've seen cold motors make the most power as long as the oil isn't too thick. We run the outlaw sled just over 100-110 on the grass, its 200-215 coming back on the return track.

Do you have the partnumber for the 2010 theromstat?
Need for Speed 2
I have always been taught and preached to that cold air entering a hot engine creates more cylinder pressure. That cold air expands thus helping to create the added force. I dont think an overheated engine is it but one that is up to optimum operating temps, and that temp on the 1200 I think is more to be the 170 not the 150.

I would like to know the updated stat part number also. If any of you turbo guys need more cooling capacity I have an extra front cooler from a fusion that looks like it will fit a 1200 pretty good

That would be the ONLY thing worth a hoot on a fusion!!!! Got one on the stand now doing a turbo install...got to get a new 2010 t stat as well, if no one beats me to it I will post a pn tomorrow night sometime. Btw the theromostat is one of DOZENS of changes from 09-2010!!!!

FYI
For those who have a 2009 4 stroker you may want to consider updating to the new thermostat, Part#420822541 expected availability is 12/14/09 thru BRP. The new thermostat is 150 degrees versus the stock one which is 170 degrees

Above is the PN Dragster listed for the 150 stat on another posting

Dustin, if the T-stat is one of dozens of changes between the 09-10, what are the other 11? Anything important.

MOST...of them are small changes as to where things are loacted on the chassis and other small things...nothing major just a few things noticed from doing turbos on 09's vs 2010's. First impressions would be that these changes were possibly done to accommodate a factory blower of some sort???? JMO!!??!!

Hey junky don't tell the Polaris guys the parts aren't worth anything. I got to sell the rest of this hulk!!
