Just picked up a new 09 154 xp today and have never owned a doo before. I have a couple friends that have the 08 and a couple that have the 09. Some had their gear changed out to the 19t but left their clutch totally stock, and a couple had the DJ (or another brand) clutch put in but left the gearing alone. Any suggestions on what a guy should do, just re-gear it to a 19t, just add the DJ clutch, or do both? Any why? I'm going to be riding around whistler lots as well as revelstoke in BC this winter if that makes a difference.

I have the exact sled and these are the mods......mountian DJ kit, went to 19gear, put on a light weight can, ceramic coated my stock pipe, put on a muff pot (most) polish tunnel ( no wind drag) smooooooth, the rest was bling,bling,bling....................

IMO...If you change the gearing at Revelstoke elevations.. you will lose performance. The stock gearing works fine.. A 20T top would not hurt anything.. a 19T top will hurt performance..

That has been our experience

I was debating on getting an XP last year but knew they were notorious for having clutching problems. He spent almost an hour on the phone with me going over what should be tweaked right out of the box to get optimum performance. Based on my conversation with him last March I spring checked a 2010 Summit X and per his recommendation have made both clutching and gearing changes as well as added a Jaws can.
Now just waiting on a little snow to see how she does...

Dale is only about 45 minutes from Revy so I'd consider him a pretty good resource if that is where you plan to ride.

Good info thanks, do you know if he has his own clutch set up? and what gearing to you go to?

He has his own clutch set up and does all of his own R&D locally so you know it will be good for that area. I didn't look into a DJ or SLP clutch setup, since he was the guy helping me out I figured I give his a try. He has tons of good info on aftermarket skids, airbox mods, and has a different head for use with 91 octane gas. All I can say is I wish he was my local SkiDoo dealer.

forgot...Gearing. He had me switch to a 20/51. I had to go with a longer chain also. I guess I'll find out if it was worth it as soon as we get some snow...

Well I had the sled out for the first weekend and although I have no experience on the XP before with a stock setup it ran great and my buddies say it is a hugh improvement over their old stock XP's. That being said I am new to the XP and fairly new to sledding so I'm hoping I can ask some questions about the clutching and what to look for.

When I just on the throttle the RMP's jump right to 8200 on clicker 3 and stay right there. 8400 on clicker 4. they drop a little bit, 100 or 200 if I hit a different patch of snow or a steeper incline but usually just right back up in under a second. It engages at 4800 and I was doing 60 at 7000 RMPS( I think, didn't write it down). Going to check some other stats next weekend and was wondering what I should be looking for?

Going to use the marker on the primary trick to see if it is fully shifting out.

Any tests to try to see if it is properly backshifting to it's full potential?

What speeds should it be engaging at at? 35MPH at? 70MPH at?

I'm also going to check the top speed and this is what I'm currently running

09 154
Yellow spring
44/40
415 ramps
new rollers? don't know which ones yet, dealer put them in
added about 1 gram extra weight (what is stock weight by the way?) as per dealer
20/45 gearing

I'm happy but want to make sure that i'm getting best possible
Any insight would be great.

I've been reading all the posts about gearing for over a month now so please don't just tell me to go back and read more posts!!
thanks
