i just sold my apex and am lookin for a new sled thats tougher, i want more wind protection, handwarmers that work, and a sled that wont get stuck off trail, and has a winch incase it does, i had my back fused in may so im not hot roddin i just like to cruise around , i drive mostly on trails i weigh 270 and feel that the mxz sleds just arent big enough for my weight, i feel kinda like a big guy on a moped on them. is the expedition pretty durable, ive had problems hittin stumps at 5mph on my apex and breakin the bulkheads,i guess im looking for the f350 4wd of sleds, is this sled with the 4 stroke a good sled?

Great sled either with 4-stroked 1200 or with the 600 SDI, with a quick search in this forum for XU or Expidition XU you can read most of the pro and cons

ive read quite abit or research on this site and it seems like most of the of the problems with the 09s seem to be fixed for 2010s i would mostly trail rideit and ocasionally pull a drag for trail groomin

For me, I wanted a few simple qualities in a snowmobile; reliability, comfort, cargo carrying capacity and reasonable fuel economy. These qualities are not always easy to get. The XU is exactly the machine I wanted. Sure it has a few minor warranty issues but what new snowmobile doesn't. As for which engine, the 600SDI has ample power, great fuel milage, lighter weight, and is less expensive than the 4 stroke.

I am also looking for an expedition xu. I talked with a friend this week end, he was on cross country trip last year. One of them had a 600 SDI widetrack and one a 1200 touring. He said there was a difference of 2 to 3 dollars at fill up. He said with the 600, he uses 1 gallon of oil in a year for around 1500 to 2000 Kilometer. I would tend to prefer a 600 for the pull start possibility in the middle of nowhere. You never know when the battery or starter will let go. I tend to keep my machine for years, so in 3 to 4 years, you may have one occasion with a starter or battery problem , or a minus 40. there you go, stuck, no pull, nobody, middle of nowhere, these thing never happen on the trail or with people around, it is always in the minus very cold, windy, at night, so on so forth....
I do not think the fuel consumption would play that much in the balance.
From what I hear, the 600 is a good engine, decent on fuel, not to bad with oil.
I wish they would have the E tech in the XU, but again, the SDI has proven reliable.
For the 1200, it is 60 more pounds on the skis, just like you would have 1 x 5 gallons of fuel on each skis...., may look like a submarine...We will see report only in ea early 2010.
