I have rode as early as late Oct back in 1996 on state land in north west lower MI. When there is good snow in Nov, which is about every 3 years or so up near our place, we ride state land at night from Nov 15th till Dec 1st. We've been doing this for over 20 years and never had a problem, you just need to know where and when to go and stay off private land. We hunt also up there but when the snow is good your not going to hurt anything by putting a few miles on your sled a night or two. Heck, back when I got my new Polaris Edge X 600 that year I had over 500 miles on it before Dec 1st! I think that was Nov of 2000. Great snow that Nov. Like one guy said "who needs trails" A few years back we even saw where a groomer had been out "panning" the trails Thanksgiving weekend one night when we were out ridding. It was east of Lake City and west of Higgins Lake area. The long range forecast is calling for a big time cold snap around hunting season again this year so with a little luck, we'll be out ridding some a few nights around that time!

Yep we have ridden in Oct....EVERY YEAR ...this thing comes up about when you can ride...I ride sometimes also way before deer deason.
Then during that time...Nov 15th to the 29th.. I ride some between the hours of 11 am and 2 pm but most of the time it is after dark...
The U.P. is a very large area with thousands of miles of forest roads...Know your area and ride as you please following the laws.
Why spend so much money on something you only use a couple months a year?? But keep in mind you will deal with mud, rocks and other none snow covered items.
And Please not the "Ground is not frozen line" A lot of the time the ground does not freeze unless it is a plowed area.
