as the title says who has mods on their sleds here in wi? and what are the mods?
have you ever run into problems with johny law. i really want to mod up a bit with
exhaust and everything but im afraid of johny law getting upset with that.

the dnr will stop you for any reason up north in bolder junction, come to a complete stop, exaggerate looking both ways, stand up while riding through town, and don't dare bring a sled with a loud exhaust. i'm not kidding. you can not go to some places with loud exhaust. some places you can get away with alittle more. if you do it next to somebodies house late at night they will complain and sooner or later. and like 07 ski-doo x says, the regestration sticker is so small they can't see it as your going by so fast, but they do know where the trail crosses the next road. try playing them. the cops need a search warrant to come into your home, the dnr doesn't. loud exhaust does not mean more power, you can get aftermarket exhaust that is still within the noise limits though allthough the stock is hard to improve on with the newer machines. changing the air box for k&n or pod filters will make it louder and screw up your jetting because now theirs no vacuum before the carbs to draw fuel out of them so you have to jump WAY up with your jetting. basiclly all of your parts in your carbs are wrong, way wrong. the biggest bang for the buck, seat of the pants add on is clutch kit. add ANY other after market part and there is no more "kit", all clutch kits are made for stock sleds, unless you want to call someone on the phone to see if he can do a over the line mind meld with your sled to figure out what your power curve is

instead of modding, sell your 110hp 600 and buy a 150hp 800.i've got a spi can on my 800R and have never been stopped by"johnny law"but it's not really that much louder at WOT.just has a nice low rumble on the bottom end.if you stay away from nothern wisc you should never have a problem with the dnr.i got stopped twice in eagleriver by villas co. sheriff for yellow tinted headlights on my 02'mxzx.no ticket though.

ya i ride central wi. Waupaca area. but my buddy and i will take rides all the way up to boulder junction and hurly things like that. i am thinking a clutch kit. (but i am also pretty mechanicly inclined i just finished putting together my formula 500 that i blew up last winter.) so i have been thinking about maybe doing more playing with the jetting and what not wont bother me to much.

thanks for the info tho guys!

We should Doo a ride if we get any snow!
2006machza
fox valley area ride maybe this year?

thinking something like meet at waverly and snow depending/trail quality take a trip around winnebago and possible jump off and hit some trails up.

think waverly would be the easiest for everyone to meet at with trailer parking if needed and the lake for those of us in osh/nee area to just scoot down there. plus large building to meet in

what you all think

I'm game!

Just glancing at your sig. I see a power stroke forum, Are you a powerstroke owner? Cause i know those guys with ther "awesome trucks" along with there sometimes 4 or 5 inch full exhaust rattle my "edit for bad language" house everytime one of those "edit for bad language"ers passes my house, exspecially when there stompin on it!

So the comment arises, why don't the police do something about? Well what about a sled with a can/pipes? Why doesn't the DNR do something about it?

Trucks quit, Thanks for askin. Roads are public anyway. Landowners cant shut them down. Yes harleys and straight piped trucks are annoying if ya dont own one. But can i tell em they cant drive down the road? Nice try. need better argument, Public vs private is no comparison.

Try coming to Iron River Wi. The dnr and the local police and county sheriffs deputys regularly. put roadblocks on the main trails loud pipes =ticket. drink too much= ticket. speed = ticket. alot of the enforcement is concentrated where the traffic is the heavyest. some may not have the problem with loud pipes because your local authorities do not see the traffic. and dont have any reason to know the laws. Come here where the whole town lives for snowmobiling and you will see strict enforcement. The cops dont have anything better to do and they know the pipe laws. sad.gif

We ride from a buddies place in herbster to iron river and i think 3 outta 5 times comin in or out of iron river we've been checked and once warned bout speed. the fella was decent to us but the next group wasnt as lucky. They drew attention to themselves from there stupid exhaust you could here comin from 2 miles outta town. The loud noise is not only loosen us trails but does make a good fundraiser for the local law enforcment.

all i know is i read the 88 db level noise law and i read the procidure on how they are supposed to take it. dnr is not just going to open my hood see crankshop on the pipes and start writing me a ticket.they better have the db meter with them and do the test properly before writing me a ticket. they are trail pipes and they are not obnoxious loud. if its over 88 and i can watch them take the reading then fine im guilty. but ive heard stories of dnr seeing a can under the hood and writing a ticket on the spot. some cans fall under the 88 db level. yes i know loud pipes close trails.

Thing is with WI DNR they do whatever they please. They will probably write a ticket anyway and you will have to fight it in court. The law is very vague in stating no modifications to make your machine louder and it can't be over 88db. Seeing a can doesn't automaticly make it louder than stock I don't see how they can write tickets without having a sound test and guidelines of what your stock exhaust level is. The man always gets you in the end lol. I have a SLP can and it is not any louder than the stock exhaust 03 I have here but it is a different tone which gets you noticed. Running around my local area and on the bay I don't ever see DNR but when I go up north I am putting my stock one back on just so I don't have to deal with the pain.
