I did some research and didnt really find what i was looking for, i need to know a good clutch set up for the mentioned sled(sled was just rebuilt ground up stock). Also would like to know any info on the "thicker" base gasket and cutting the head, what does this do? what kinda of gains can you get out of these 2 mods alone with stock everything else. Any info on 97 700 tripples would be greatly appreciated. cheers.gif

Head cut with stock pipes is a waste. The gains are in the 8600-8800 rpm range above where stock pipes have the max hp to rpm range. Search in the triple forum for a good clutch setup, but still need where your looking to improve over the stock clutch setup, i.e. trail vs lake, mid top or bottom gains etc.

Well when we re-built the sled we ended up throwing a primary on it my dads buddy gave us, and it just doesnt feel right (holeshots kinda doggy, only pulls 87mph on speedo, only getting like 7800 rpm) We just want it to be an awesome trail sled for mine and my dads buddys to ride as a back up. Also would like to know about the thicker base gasket and what that does. Thanks.

You cant really just throw a primary on there, it has to have to correct internal parts or it wont run correctly as your experiencing. The thicker base gasket goes along with the head cut to raise the exhaust port and the head cut bring the compression back down to stock to match the thicker gasket.

I understand that this is why we are having issues, thats why i asked about clutching because i need to know what pin weight/spring/ etc. It was deffinetly not my idea to throw a primary on off a formula z, i tryed telling the old man to hold his horses but he wanted to go ride that weekend. lol. Hes a big kid. Any additional help is appreciated.

145 ramps
230/380 primary spring
19 gr pins
52-48 helix

you can put 228 ramps if you find the engagement to high.I also have a set of triple fast trident pipes that should fit in the stock can.there a little banged up but very useable.......100$ cdn + shipping
MzI
adjustable pins, 286 or 293x ramps and probably a stock spring would be a good starting point

Not really looking to pipe it the motor is fresh and only has 300mi on it we just wanted to get the clutching correct so the sled can be used as a back up but still run to its potential. Thanks anyways though cheers.gif The set up you mentioned, is it good for trail riding?
rotax583
yep!!!!! there might be a few minor adjustments to go with your altitude and weight but it should be good.

583 (formula z) has a short taper PTO, u need a long taper clutch
17.5-18.5 pin wt worked well 4 me @ 180#, stk PK/WH spring, and the 286(stk) ramp
out of the hole @ 8200-8300 and pull to 8500
Straight 47 cam, 48, 50 16-19 #, multi cams r good if your hook up is good, straight cam give good performance if u spin
the 97 Mach1 from doo was 1 of there best sleds, if set up well and will run with the SRX's

another set-up I found was px ramps, empty pins,230/380 primary,50 helix at b-6 and 25/44 gearing. the guy said it was real good for drag and trail
MuscleBee528
Its got a 1.25" ripsaw studded pretty good
