Hey there, bought a 2000 Mini-z and need to prime it by putting gas down spark plug hole and pulling it over...this is the only way it will start and won't stay running ...

After doing this several times it eventually stay running but wondering if there is a fuel pump issue or why the fuel draw is so difficult...once the sled sits for over a week or so have to go through the same process ..

Thanks

Sounds like bad points in motor or vaccum leak somewhere.

Clean the carb and be sure the pilot jet is really clean.Be sure too ,your valves are not too tight.

Ya I was looking at it again today...man do they ever make these things hard to work on....

Its not that it doesn't idle it wont stay running even at 3/4 - full throttle

I would agree with Hioctane that the carb is dirty. Pull it off and clean the float bowl needle and seat and the jets and then it should be fine

I just got my son a 1998 Mini Z ... starts up no problem, runs but does not idle ..

I did the following:

1) Changed the plug - it was fouled.
2) Used carb cleaner (spray) on the carb.
3) Adjusted the throttle cable - to give it a bit more fuel

well .. here is the question. It seems to 'idle' after the adjustment but ... with the track off the ground .. it turns. is that the correct behavior?

I suspect i am going to hear to take off the carb and clean it - i have the shop manual and looked the procedure .. not sure i want to undertake that myself. So before i take the sled to someone to tune it, wondered if there was something else i should do?
