I am getting a skid plate for my new renegade when I pick it up. Just wondering how hard it is to put one on, just the basic skidoo one, never done one before. How is it bolted underneath, are they self tappers or what? Any if on that would be appreciated, thanks.

Pop rivets, Drill 3\16 holes and rivet on.

Some have gone to zurkert nuts and bolt them on with ss hardware.

The hard thing is to hold in spot to get it started. Good luck...

Be careful when drilling the holes on the underside some units have cooling lines routed thru the area you will be drilling

After the second a-arm I went with the kit that you can unbolt it. Take the time to use that one, if it comes off easy you should never have to take it off.

ski doo has that kit.

I think you only need to drill two holes just below the front bumper in the belly pan. The bottom of the sled should already have holes in it. DON'T use the plastic rivets supplied. Upgrade to the steel ones they offer. I had the dealer install mine when I bought it (I was in a hurry) and they used the plastic ones which broke in 3 rides. No problems with the steel ones yet, but when I have to remove I will blot on with SS hardware.

BTW, you will need to remove the pipe to get backer washers on the two below the bumper.

just did mine today on an xp tnt 4 holes to drill in front too k 15 min

I bought the BRP skid all the hardware was included ( SS poprivets and backers etc....) . The hardest thing to do was to remove the springs on the muffler for acess to the inside of the bellypan . All the holes were already predrilled so there was no problem locating the skid .

Make your self a tool to hook the end of the spring and pull. I used a tough steel rod about a foot and a half long, bent a hook on one end and a right angle bend of the other end.

You really dont need to take off the muffler though unless you are using a really long bit? I found that out after I took it off though just be carefull.

for that one spring that is a pain on the backside of whre the pipe connects to the muffler just use a shoe string or peice of string and hook it around the end of the spring and pull it thru the front where the hood goes. this makes that one so much easier. just did it last night installing my rpm composits skidplate (by far the best skidplate i have ever seen as far as protection, quality, fit and finish)

I just installed the ski-doo Extreme skid-plate on my new 09 XP800. Definately a two-man job. One has to hold it in place (squeeze tight to the body for a good fit), while the other runs the rivet gun. The 3/16" steel rivets are not easy to pull.

Very impressed with the fit except for the u-shaped slots where the sway bar arms pass thru. Had to widen the slots about 3/4" to the outside to make fit. Otherwise, all good. 6 bottom holes under the motor are pre-drilled. You have to drill 4 up front and 3 on each side. All are pretty accessible after you remove the pipe (yep, that one spring on the back side of the muffler is a bitch).

The instructions are fair, but be careful drilling the 3 on each side. If you do a good job of positioning the skid-plate the holes work out perfect. If not, you could hit the cast brace, and get too close to a corner. Do them one side then the other. Do the inner one first - should come out just in the crook of the cast brace - use the wide washer. Then do the outer (upper) one - it should come out just next to a corner in the plastic - hence the narrow washer. Do the bottom one last - easy - no washer.

Now all we need is a ton of snow!!!
So far the Colorado mountains have a little, but you need a lot for one of these monsters. Thanksgiving, with any luck. Need to put on an easy 100 miles for break-in. Probably some laps around Turquoise Lake, then off to the high(er) country.

Does the RPM Composits skid plate come with the holes already drilled or with the spots for the holes built up and possibly dimpled for easier install.

Do you think the skid plated would shatter if it hit a rock

if you have not yet made the spring tool you can also use a shoe lace or small rope to get the springs....definelty make or buy a spring tool, but if you havent yet and need to do this job you cna get the springs on and off iwth a rope.
