Looking for information on trail riding the eastern UP. I ussually ride the western UP. Me and a couple of my buddies are interested in riding over to Machinaw Island and over to Drummond Island. I've been told you can ride across the straights to Machinaw Island but will need to take a Ferry to Drummond Island. We would be staying in St Ignas area and riding out of there to the locations metioned. When is the best time to make the crossing to Machinaw Island?

We are also interested in riding over to Tahquamenon Falls from St Ignas area.

Any information or contacts for the area up there would be appreciated. We normally cover 200 - 250 mile a day on rides.

Make sure the snow is good during the time you have planned. East side sometimes is thin on snow. Feb- to 1st of March maybe best?

Plan your trip for the same week as the Soo I-500 and you can add that to your list of destinations. Trail goes right to the parking lot.

Riding to Mackinaw Island, the best is to find the local info to the island for the ice bridge safety. Follow the x-mas tree lines.

Yes Drummond has a ferry. Great ride.

Everthing you mentioned are great destinations.

Don't forget your camera.

Stay at the Driftwood in St. Ignace. The prices are cheap, there is a restraunt and bar in the hotel and the trail to Machinaw Island is across the street. When you go to the falls make sure you stop and eat at Camp 33 which is the Brew Pub right by the falls.

Book your nights at the Driftwood in advance it fills fast but well worth it. And camp 33 is great as well as Timber Charlies in Newberry
