I don't know Hacksaw but I know I'm not the only one that has had idleing issues when the daughter's 300 is cold. Once it warms up it idles fine but cold it wants to flood so I doubt that it is a boot issue since that should make it idle faster.
Well, I removed and replaced the carb boot on the electric start Freestyle today. Upon initial inspection, I noticed that the locating pins on the bottom of the carburetor bowl were not seated in the rubber grommets and the airbox clamp was not around the metal carburetor support "tang".
The rubber boot had been supporting the carburetor & the airbox all by itself. I replaced the boot while my brother cleaned the carburetor. The float height was at 25.50mm when we checked and was readjusted to 24mm per HiOctanes post. My brother used a piece of straw from a broom again to clean and polish the main jet, then blew it all out well with air and reassembled everything. I slapped that puppy back on (properly this time), cranked it over a few revs to refill the bowl, and it started right up. I think I just had a visual memory of the carburetor and airbox shaking and rattling around that made me think the idle was rough... It sure runs fine now! The boot was nearly comprimised with deep cracks on it's underside, but not quite. it was definitly time to change that one, though!
Two down, one boot replacement to go!
Hacksaw.
