I haven't taken delivery yet , but I just bought a Touring LSE , 500 fan to tow with . Will a late 90s Skandic rack be my best option ? Anyone build a custom rack that they would like to show ? I would like as much capacity as possible without compromising seating , suspension or towing ability .

The Skandic/Tundra rack is the right one for the Touring SLE chassis yes, and it will hold a 5-gal gas can no problem. Recently, after working on the 440LT projects, I discovered that those sleds have a very nice rear rack that curves out wider than the tunnel and looks quite nice. However, the chances of you finding one down there is pretty slim.

The stock rack works well, but with some basic fab skills and some time, you could make something nice as well.

LB , would you mind gracing me with a couple photos of the LT rack ? It seems that my "tugboat" may arrive this weekend and I want to get on it quickly so that I can attend to the other sled projects waiting in line . What wall thickness tubing would be appropriate for strength and bend-ability ?

I'll get you a pic tomorrow. The tubing in these racks is pretty thin-walled actually, probably in the 0.060" range.

Tom, I have an extra rack from the 1997 Tundra R chassis that I picked up this past weekend. Paint is OK, no major corrosion and no funky bends.

PM me a mailing address and I'll send it out to you.
