Over the July 4th weekend, we took trip up North to the cabin in North Conway.
We took the long way around up 91 through Lincoln up RT 3 through Twin Mnt.
It was really disappointing seeing all the closed stores, mom & pop places that we
went to as kids and when we first got back into sledding about 13 years ago.

Took a trip up to Pittsburg as well, we had rain (what's new!!!) to check things out.
Once again on the way up through Groveton, Colebrook and into Pittsburg more closed
places. It is a real shame that things had to get this bad for them and closed. After many
years of dropping into for a quick bite to eat or a stay for a night or two during the sled
season. These places had real character too, not like a Holiday Inn or other chain.
Run by great people and really put themselves out to make your stay wanting to
return. I guess it is a real shame that the younger generation will not be able to
experience what we did during our sledding days.

Well here is hoping for another great season of riding...

Well were not all dead. Mywife and I have been running a duplex cabin business Next to Coleman state park since 2007. We both still work full time but still make the time to keep our guests happy. Winters have been great in our 1st 2 years but we could sure use some business in the summer

Just hang in there. I live NoDak and I'm watching little home town businesses almost blow right off the map with the hard times that are going on. People in the area try their best to keep the business local but the few big name stores are like a foot on there head, they just keep getting pushing them down. Even in NoDak where we get good snow sometimes most of the little stops along the way on a ride are now gone forever. Everyone just needs to remember the little man and I think we'd all be in a better situation.

this rele stinks, its ahppening where i ride too, our favorite bar/restaurant, and our friends place, The Bear Path in Speculator,Ny was forced to close becasue the lack of business in the summer.

idk but i think that mom&pop places have better food and more friendly than larger well known establishments

Hey Denny,

Glad to hear you are doing well. Do you have access to any ATV trails or close by?
I have heard nothing but great feedback on sledders that have stayed with you. Hope to make
it up there this winter.

Thanks,

Steve

We're close for ATV's but not yet. Closest trail is about 3 miles from me. But the closest truck trailer parking is about 15 miles. I wish I had the time to form a club because I think legal access could happen with some effort.

Maybe you could talk to the Ridgerunners and coax them into adding atvs to thier club.
We have a similar club here in Troy that does both, and it works out well.
That would give you added business during the summer.
Also, consider advertising here and a few other sites. There are a lot of us snowmobilers that hunt and fish that would love to rent a cabin during the warmer months.

Pittsburg has an ATV club alreadygreatnorthwoodsatv. They have about 100 miles of trails and are working extremely hard to add more Errol and Millsfield also have clubs so I am surrounded just not connected. Oddly enough the biggest landowner hold up is the state itself. I have considered advertising on sled sights but am already fairly busy in the winter. Feed back I got from other advertisers indicates not many winter renters are also summer renters. That surprised me but I got good info from people I trust.

Hey denny glad to here that the biss is going okay. Went bye last Saturday on are annual Jeep Run that we do and saw some people their didn't know if it was you or not. Should have stop to introduce but had 26 others following. To bad you couldn't be able to connect to the trail at the end of Big D. because i think in the near future you will see Pittsburg and Errol/Millsfeild connect. ridedoo.gif DL

Ya that was me that was there waving the all you guys. You had a great week end to camp out thats for sure. The end of big Diamond would be agreat place to connect but sources have told me that would be a real tough sell to a couple of land owners. From the little info I have Sugar hill will probably be the Diamond pond areas best shot at ATV access. On another note Just wondering if your Summit is black with blue graphix? And if I may have seen you riding lone on the cut from west to east just before Boundry pond back in febuary somtime. The tracks continued east past boundry. I don't know if it was you or not but whoever it was deserves big props for hitting the hill on the cut going east from boundry ALONE!!! Here is a pic from near where the black summit met us

Ya it was a good day didn't break to much stuff. Sorry it wasn't me I actually have a Hillclimb though and would not hesitate going up on the cut with it. So maybe in the near future I'll be there just to see if I could get stuck.
tbeaton
i remeber that guy he was just plowing on thru while i was sucking pond water at the bottom after i got stuck like 30 times.

denny your place does so well because of you and your location doesn't hurt. you won't find a better guide and guy in denny. the man will sleep in his garage so his guests can have the house. can't wait to ride with you this season. we will have to set something up so you can get me to some more cool places. we had a failed attempt trying to get to rump. i had to many people to really go hunting for it.
