There's the Finger Lakes, but the only ones that even get close to being frozen enough to ride on are Owasco and Otisco. Personally, I don't put my sled on lakes, I don't care how thick the ice is.

not really much in the way of lakes suitable for sledding around here. Lots of nice trails if the snow is right, or, write, as you might say.

I lived in the Penn Yan area for a while and found the trail system to lack snow. One of my trail maps had some of the trails heading up north through the finger lakes beyond the thru way and hitting a main corridor which heads east...never tried it due to a lack of snow... Now I live near the hamilton NY area and can ride from my house all the way to tug hill...I like living here better!!!!!

I know if you can get to trumansburg, there are trails that hook up over towards cincy and deruyder which from there, you can get alot of riding up to cazenovia etc. From there you can head over to the westmorland area and hit just about anything. I've done a loop from deruyder to caz then over to waterville, etc. The trails exist, except you need good snow to ride them...at times last season, you could go anywhere...lets see what happens this year...

ps I would be leary of any lakes in your area unless they are shallow and have a chance to freeze over...

cayuta lake or little lake know by locals near odessa always freezes and will have sleds on it. max depth is 20 feet but make sure others have been out there, last year a guy put sled through ice. we might not have enough snow to ride trails but its always cold enough for that lake to freeze over.
