Well it was just announced by BRP that they have positioned themselves to deal with some of the quirks that showed up in the 2009 Expediton XU. They have now commited to fixing issues such as gear box and plastic side panel concerns. On top of this commitment you will be receiving a second year of warrenty to offset any trouble that you may have experenced this past season. Talk about standing behind your product. Way to go BRP. This is a great way to satisfy those that took the risk with your introduction of a revolutionary utility platform. XU owners and dealers will be receiving notice of this announcment in the next few weeks.

That's good news.

It's important for any company that is trying new things (like BRP) to stand behind their new products with significant warranty support. It certainly gives buyers of first year sleds that added confidence when making their purchase and the side benefit for the manufacturer that stands behind their first year sleds like this is that they avoid any "cold" first year models. What I mean is that buyers are not afraid to put their money down on a new sled (despite the fact that some of the technology is not yet proven) if they can see that a manufacturer has stood behind their product in the past and will likely do the same if their latest piece of iron has some teething issues.

The majority of the qualms that I have seen with the XU revolves around the leaking gearboxes (lower seal) and broken sidepanels whether they be from external impact in this low-slung area or internally broken drive belts and resulting flying debris. Addressing these two issues in the Fall will please most all XU owners.

Thats really great news. I only put 1100K on mine this year and having another years warranty should certainly allow time for dealing with any further issues. I did have a side panel mounting replaced. BRP must be planning on keeping the XU model around for a while.

right_on.gif , Way to go BRP, Great news in the middle of summer, guess they plan on making the XU a "Bigseller" in Can/USA to as it are in Scandinavia.

I certainly hope that it sticks around . it seems like the platform that I am destined for .

So they should stand by their product and replace or repair any defect, it's called A warranty!

Any owner out of the Expedition XU received notice of the extended warranty? I own one but have yet to receive any notice of extended warranty. I spoke with the dealer from whom I purchased the skidoo and they have yet to receive any info on this.

I recieved a letter from BRP last week. It confirms what Cains already announced. Another year of warranty, nothing about what needs to be fixed. I wondered if anyone has seen the latest on the updates, I dropped my machine at the dealer in early May and it is still there, he only does PWC durring this time of year. I got most of the updates done except the gear box seal which they had on order. I was working them for new plastic since I have a couple small cracks and the pannels don't align very well. They were resistant but it sounds like this may now be covered. It is a nice machine and the only reason that I bought a first year sled was that it was BRP, you pay more but you get what you pay for in life.

Great news on the letter from BRP. The side panels are covered on warranty. I spoke with the dealer and he said they had received the warranty info on the panels just recently. Did you have trouble with your suspension shocks? Both of mine were shot and they are being replaced.

You should be receiving all new panels and a new or remanufactured gear box. A new seal will not do the trick as it is more than just your oil leak that BRP is addressing. The shift smoothness is also being reworked during this program. Make sure you already have all of your clutch tower bracing completed. I would suggest you hold off on your stock shocks and see if a better option becomes available to you. The current skid shocks are quite weak and an alternative may become available. Hold off on that claim as you now have another whole year to receive warrenty IMHO.

Any more news on the items being covered under the extended warranty? I spoke to my dealer about the gear box a month ago, but have not heard anything as of yet. I'm curious to know if a new one will be installed.

Gearbox updates have been happening at my local dealer's shop for over 2 months now; owners called, sleds coming in, gearboxes removed and updated, gearboxes re-installed and heading back out the door. They can't hold all of the sleds at once, so they have to do it in a stepwise fashion, which is logical.

Perhaps your slot hasn't come up yet. Call your dealer and ask him when he has your XU scheduled to come in for the update... if he is bewildered by your call, perhaps it will at least get his keister in gear.

Just spoke to the dealer and they say the original gearbox has to be removed and shipped back, a new replacement will then be shipped along with a side panel update. He tells me that the replacement gear box is new and not a rebuilt. Looks like the shifting issues are probably due to the gearbox, not belt tension or idle adjustment as previously thought. I had thought that this transmission was tried and proven in the original Expedition TUV. Do you know if they had problems as well?

Without disclosing too much that I know, yes, you're right. They come off, are sent out and a new one is installed. This gearbox has some internal changes that solve the shifting and leaking issues that were raised by MY2009 buyers. However, one of the contributors to the rough shifting was the high idle and reducing this did make things better for many XU owners.

A quick look at an XU vs. a Yeti or Yeti II chassis sled would tell you that no, this is not the same gearbox. It uses a similar design and technology (still made by Sisu Diesel) but it is a completely new gearbox mounted to the opposite side of the sled. Again I applaud BRP for stepping up to the plate and issuing new transmissions to all buyers; this runs right back to an older post I made regarding first-year buyer confidence. Anybody who has bought an 09 sled must be happy to hear that they are getting a new gearbox which will solve the minor issues that were experienced in the first year of production.

I'm looking at buying a new 2010 Expedition any comments heard that the XU chassis wasn’t holding up, actually some cracked in half. Any comments would be welcome, definitely getting a new machine but if need be I would go to another model.

You should do a search bud, these topics have been covered at length. No, those XU's are not cracking in half, there were some light chassis issues but they have been addressed for MY2010.
