Just picked up a 2005 GTX with some extras off a board member here.
Now just to prep it for summer and wait for snow next fall.

Truck is parked outside a bit upset.
Oh well. Porta-Garage will be up soon and after shuffling things around they'll both have a nice place to spend the night together.

Here is my first picture.
BAR IT!
Welcome aboard, and congrats on the new sled!! cheers.gif cheers.gif

Wait till next summer?? Take er north and break er in buddy. Still plenty of riding left if you know where to look, did over 100 miles saturday, though the rain tongiht might force us to lake ride the rest of the season.

Also, welcome aboard!

I can reach trails in the winter from my garage.
Decided on a more flexible ride for the family and to wait on the trailer.

I think he's afraid to take it out in public..... brags about the sled although he shows a pic of it covered. wacko.gif Still snow upstate.... Go up & give 'er' some....it will pump you up for next year. I remember when I first bought my F-111, I traveled 3 hrs. north to Portage Lake, rode for 3-4 hrs, then came home.. What a blast....

What my family said too.
Cover fits like a glove. I'll take more pictures once I get the cover off to do the admiring while I do the zerts and stuff.
Waiting on the Manual (being mailed) which hopefully shows be where all the grease points are.

Any recommendations for grease? or just standard?

I've always used just standard red bearing grease. I heard a suggestion this winter to try Marine bearing grease...made for wet environments and harsh conditions. Don't know the truth to it though.

Some of my friends with ATVs use marine grease. Not having an ATV I have not had to make the choice.
I use Marine grease on anything that will likely see 'weather', even the chain pull that holds my spare tire under my truck bed.
It seems to inhibit water well and generally seems to stay more 'fresh' than standard grease, not that I change it over any less.

Not having a snowmobile that I have personally had to maintain before, I was curious if there was some drawback to Marine grease for snowmobiles in particular.

I have a 2005 GTX 600 SDI and just turned my 13,754th mile last weekend with ZERO, and I will say that again ZERO problems. I had the clutches done this year just because everyone said I needed to and it still runs as good as the day i bought it and still gets 20mpg every tank. I bought a new 800 XP last year and I still ride my GTX almost as much as my new one. If you take care of this sled, you will love it.

That is great to hear. While I'm not finding much on GTX owner feedback online, a lot of what I am finding is positive.
The previous owner took really good care of it as well, so I hope it does as well as yours. smile.gif Thanks for the feedback.

nice cover right_on.gif do you always keep it protected when you're not using it?

Other than my 30year old snowblower, all my other gear stays covered when I am not using or maintaining it.
I don't spend money on myself very often but when I do I go overboard on upkeep.
