Before I head to Arctic Man this year, I'm going to replace the cast RAVE's in my '08 800R with the new forged RAVE's. Do I need to replace both halves, or just the lower (with the ears)?

Well... I feel like an idiot. Upon actual examination, it turns out that I already have the forged RAVE's. I guess I got a little paranoid and just assumed I had the cast ones. headbang.gif

On a slightly different note... Why would the oil on my RAVE's look all milky brown, like there's some water mixed in? What do I need to check?

I have an idea on where the milky stuff may come from. There will be some moisture associated with the combustion process. Maybe it collects in the rave as it may not get hot enough to burn it off. Mixes with the normal slime. I may shoot the engine with the I.R. gun soon to see if it shows anything. Tres....

Yep, Joey. Those look like the ones I pulled out, except mine weren't quite that clean...

I just did the same inspection. My 08 154 X had new RAVES. SN ended in 6(new), not 5(old). After 2 seasons of riding I had some carbon build up but not too much. Only carbon was on RAVE tips. Clutch side rave was evenly covered in clean oil.
Mag side RAVE had milky oil on it. Water?

Could this be water from leaving my fuel tank half full all summer with no stabilizer?

Maybe due to idleing and engine not getting hot and condensation collecting up in the RAVE?

Perhaps a good ride will clean this bit of milky oil out?

I have the same milky brown oil sludge on the raves on my 09
