I have heard there is still some snow left, I guess we will have to see for this weekend. Not looking good at the moment for this upcoming week temperatures.

I'm up here in Seney right now, came up for the Vet. Ride. It has been very warm and the snow is going pretty fast. For the temps they are going to get this week, and the sun, the trails are really going to take a beating.
Out of the 3 sites that you mentioned, Grand Marais has the most snow and might be the best place to try. I see that you have off trail sleds. Call John at the Hilltop in Grand Marais, and he can give you some info on good spots to go off trail, he really knows the area well, and rides off trail himself. The weekend and next week should still be good off trail. Good Luck. cheers.gif

is the powder getting crusty yet?

It is all crusty, there is no powder. The snow is very hard in the morining since the temps go below freezing every night, and softens up once the sun hits it and the temps go up. Some snow is needed big time. I was just up in Seney this weekend.

I also just got back from this area. We waited until about noon to go riding to make sure the sleds didn't overheat.
The powder is crusty until you wait in the afternoon. Did some boondockin but the way the snow is set up it would be tough to get stuck. Still a blast.

You heading up for sure? I may head up too but may not have someone to ride with. Let me know....
See my other posting

I was suprised how fast it was melting off the trail - but then again it was in the mid/higher 40's. I was hoping to take a day off the last weekend in March but trails may get too bad - should still be off trail!!!!!!

I will be staying at the Fox river motel friday, and Saturday. If anyone is looking to save a buck I would split a room if interested. Right now its just me coming up. If I didnt have to go up to munising to pick up my summit then I wouldnt probably make the trip due to the conditions.
johnniev57
I may be interested. I'll PM ya.
Anyone else in......

Sounds good let me know. I dont know of anyone else at this point. I hope the weather makes a turn for the better or it may not be worth going up there. Im supposed to be getting a call Tuesday or Wednesday from some friends that live in Seney to let me know if its worth the drive or not.
johnniev57
I think it will be worth the drive - This was Sunday.........

I hope your right. Im most likely only going there to be doing some off trail. Hopefully its not all hard and crusty due to the temps they will see there this week.

The pic is a bit small, I cant see it. Im going to make my mind up tonight once I hear from my friends up there. Currently most of the trails by the swamp and in towns are dirt/mud/water. Unfortunatley weather is not on our side for the weeked, with rain in the forecast.

I just came back from Seney today. I picked up my summit in munising and rode with some friends from seney, mostly back country. The trails are in rough shape. There are many bare spots and standing water/muddy. If I wouldnt have went up to pick up a sled I wouldnt have made the trip up there. I bet though that there will be a few more good snow storms before the season is done though.

We are still grooming out of jackpine to shingleton, there is still decent snow on the trails, I would say there is a 2 foot base in the Boot Lake area, more towards the north!
