Got back home at about 10 PM, last night. For spring conditions, the trails were in GREAT condition. We put on just shy of 400 (easy) miles. The Blue Ridge Riders sections of trails, in Rockwood, were in especially good condition. They do an excellent job, with grooming.
After Tuesday; the area temps are supposed to hit the mid-high 50s, for the rest of the week. I suspect that
might wipe out the trails. However, there is still quite a bit of snow, off-trail; so that might be a good option.
As BDD reported; ITS 85/86 is getting pretty bare, between Greenville & Kokadjo. The Lily Bay Mtn trail was still decent. ITS 87 to The Forks, still had decent coverage, but could have used some grooming. The lake is a sheet of ice; so, if you don't have studs, be careful!
Saturday afternoon; we ran into Dix, at Pittston Farms. He reported that the trail to The Trains was all mud, and they didn't make it there. I told Mac (our "tour guide") this, and he has an alternate route to get there. He said he went over there on Friday, and alternate trail was good. He is supposed to send me the maps he GPS'd for that area. The alternate trail is on that. Dix, if he does, I'll PM it to ya.
Saturday night (and breakfast Sunday morning), we ate at Soups On; in Rockwood. I HIGHLY recommend them!!! It is a very small place, but the food (and owners) are TOP NOTCH!! On a busy weekend, I recommend calling them for a reservation. It is located at Sundown Cabins. Here's a link:
www.sundowncabins.comSunday night, on the way home, we ate at the Black Frog; in Greenville. The food was very good.
Mac and Ann (Getchell); THANKS for the hospitality, and being tour guides!! We had a great time!!! Mac is one of the groomer operators for the Blue Ridge Riders, and has ALL The Forks/Rockwood/Greenville (and MANY other areas) trails on GPS. Actually, he is the person who did the GPS mapping, for the MSA, in that area.
Mac; once again, thank you for letting Shelley use your T660 Touring. She LOVED it!! Her days of riding her MXZ 380F are OVER!!
We have to stay with 'Doo

; so we will be looking for a GTX/Grand Touring, with SDI/E-Tec or the 1200 4-Tec.
We'll keep the 380 for a "back up" sled, or for guests to use.
BTW; Mac is a long-time Cat owner. He is looking to leave the "dark side", replace his fleet of Cats, with 'Doos!!
