I had plans and reservations for a trip to tug hill the third weekend in March, but it looks like I may have to head to MI. I am from PA...where is the furthest south in MI I will be able to find good snow that weekend???
Hmmm, well it is still 2 weeks away. Alot of things could happen by then. I got some friends that just came back from Mancelona/Gaylord area. Some places were nice but some places were down to mud (up by Wolverine). It is suppose to get colder and get some snow in the northern lower.
Keep your eye on the weather and temps here in MI. If it continues cold w/ some snow I would say Indian River/Mancelona/Jordan Valley/Gaylord could be the closest to you to get a decent ride.
U.P. has lots of snow. Paradise / Newberry / Seney / Munising / Grand Marais. It would take alot of rain to mess it up. Even if it does get messed up - trailering to the woods should be good until the middle of April I would think.
I understand what you mean about "what is the furthest south" for good snow because of traveling so far. But it could really deteriorate in the northern lower if we continue with rain. Though there is a snow storm warning for 4-6+ in the tip of the mitt! If you want to stay as far south as possible I would book something in the areas from Mancelona to Indian River to Gaylord.
It would be another 3 hours(ish) to Seney area if the snow is no good in the northern lower.
Happy trails and thanks for visiting!!!! I will try and help as the trip gets closer........
UPDATE:
Petoskey / Torch Lake / Boyne got a foot of snow last night (3/8/9)
Raber (eatern UP) received 22"
Suppose to get a little warm until Wednesday (3/11) when the temps drop back off
