Hello I am curious about the average riding elevations around Anchorage. My wife and I are looking into some possible job opps up there. Any input would be greatly appreciated. If this goes through I would like to have a couple setups available in the toolbox. Thanks.

Thanks a bunch. Riding starts at '7500 here. Might need to change some weight if jobs pull through.

AkSummitXP prety much nailed it, all the riding we've done so far has been right in that range of elevation. You can go higher but chances are you'll have to ride far to get to the higer ele's.

Thanks for the replies. Have been to Alaska once back in '97 to go fishing and wasn't really paying any attention to elevations around. All I retained is that the mountains are huge and possibly some of the best views I have ever witnessed. Hat is off to those that get to enjoy the AWSOMENESS!
How far from the Anchorage area to the good powder riding? Easy doo in a day? The maps I have seen really don't do distance any justice.

You can usually access good to excellent riding within 2-3 hours of Anchorage, maybe even closer if we have a good snowfall year.

Thanks, good luck with the rest of the season. If I end up in AK it won't be until next year, Just wanted to be prepared. Thanks again.

idk any places in anchorage thats good for snowmobiling, but up on the kuskokwim, during new years before it gets to the spot where it melts alot, u can sometimes get about 5-8 feet of snow near the base of smoe mountains. but this is only upriver near like Crooked creek, Sleetmute, and stoney river.. but i wouldnt reccomend coming to the kuskokwim unless u have somesort of relationship to someone on it, summer, its Great fishing place near the creeks ^^

What would be the best month (s) for the safest sledding in Alaska?
SummitRiderAk
I'd say December, maybe even January would be the best time to ride but really it all depends on where in Alaska you want to ride.

I disagree, March and April are the "best" months IMO. December and Jan are too dark, cold and sometime very low snow. They also suffer from the dreaded Chinook if we get the Pineapple Express from Hawaii.

March and April have good snow, can get huge snow dumps, more sunlight, warmer temps, and all the rivers and low spots are filled in.
