Ok so we all went out from Monson, looking for the old blast furnaces at katahdin iron works this weekend and didnt seem to find the place. im an ironworker so i kinda wanted to take the ride to see it but couldnt find it. On the moosehaed region maps it says "katahdin iron works twp" Is this near the actual location? Can anyone help me with directions to the location of this place? help would be greatly appreciated cuz im just lost and confused now! Thanks for any help

Not sure... never been by sled... was years ago in the summer & just followed the signs...

By road.... you watch for a sign that turns you left onto a dirt road about 5 miles up Rt.11 out of Brownville Jct. then the old Iron Works is about 5 or 6 miles up that road... it was called "K1 road" or something of that sort I think.

when you are on 110 connector there is a section of the road that is plowed near the river / silver lake you will have to go over the bridge and the iron works is on the left after you cross the bridge.. [the bridge is about 50 feet from where the trail takes a right if you are coming from greenville

coming from greenville on 110 there are two club trails going off to the left near silver lake. Would it be safe to say that this should be shortly after the second club trail. Thanks!

i think the club trail you are talking about is the b-pond trail twords jomary so if were are talking about the same trail it is about a mile or so after that when you go by the lake road becomes plowed that is still part of 110 go over one bridge the roads turns to the left sled trail goes right but stay straight and go over the next bridge and iron works is wright there .....if you look on maine atlas page 42 it d -2 1/2 there is a red little building on map that says katahdin iron works
