Six of us are headed to Maine for 5 days of riding from Sunday 2/8 and leaving on Friday 2/13. This is our 3rd year coming up and everyone is pumped and ready for some great days of riding. We usually do between 150 and 250 miles a day. We are staying at Northern Outdoors in The Forks area.

We plan to ride north each day and get to many different areas including the Moosehead lake area, Kineo, Colburn, Jackman, Pittston Farms, etc etc

I saw the post Dix made on the re-route of ITS-88-89 & the Pittston Farm trails.

My question is are there any other major trail closings, new openings or re-routes? Any current info on trail changes is appreciated.

Thanks, Ross

PS - if you see these 2 sleds (2008 XP renegade and 2006 REV renegade) with the Trail Jester decals on the windshield then please do say hello!

Nothing else major up that way I'm aware of at the moment... just re-routes of the Jackman/Pittston Farm area that I posted.

Only other thing I know of worth noting is that if you ride ITS-86 out of Eustis to the Canadian border at Coburn Gore there's a logging operation underway where you have to ride about 6 or 7 miles of shared plowed road between Eustis and Chain-of-Ponds.

Other than those two issues... have a good time... conditions are as good, if not better, than last year... don't seem to be near as many washouts & soft spots as last year... but then, we're yet to hit that Feb. thaw we always sem to get.

Thanks for the update Dix.

There is a re-route comming into Jackman from the Farm, much nicer ride in IMO. There is also seems to be a lot more of plowed/shared roads this year than years past in the area between Jtown,Rockwood & the Farm.

does the XP sit that much higher or is that guy just that much taller?

The XP sits taller than the REV. And I put on a Boss seat which adds an inch more as well.

Check out the Lily Bay Mountain trail off of the B52 trail. the sights are gorgeous and it is groomed all the way to the top and back down the other side and reconnects with ITS 85 onto Kokadjo.

Just spent a week in Greenville and live in Bangor area and been going up the end of Jan. for the last 10 years + and this has been the best year yet because we haven't seen any rain at all yet this season. Ss if the weather holds up i am sure you will see lots of good riding and for your info E-10 is the only fuel available in this area now if it matters

Just did the Greenville, Forks, Jackman, Pittston, NE Carry, Kineo and back to Greenville Saturday.. Forks/Jackman area was beat up the worst.. Somewhat rough.. Not too bad tough.. Everything else was great. Trail traffic seems to be down this year in the Greenville area?? I agree with Big Dog.. More plowed roads this year then last..

We went to the B52 site last year. But I don't think we hit Lily Bay Mountain trail. Will definitely get there this year. Thanks for the tip.

I don't think I have ever run E-10 in any of my SDIs. From what I have read this week as long as I run this gas completely out of the sleds by season end it should be OK? Yes? Or should I be doing something in addition to that?

Been running E-10 in the wife's SDI for a season and a half now (we had it down here last season in this half of the state)... no issues as long as you keep it fresh... only time I'd wonder about it would be if it's been sitting in your tank for a few weeks or so.

If the sled is going to sit for any length of time & not be used then I'd say to add some marine Stabil (blue) or Star Tron to help prevent the phase separation.

That's good to hear about your wife's SDI experience with E-10. I will run our 2 SDIs dry after I get back from Maine.

Not to hi-jack a thread, but I actually had a question about the whole E-10 issues and using the Marine Stabil product. Bombardier makes a 2+4 Fuel Stabilizer for their outboards (use in it my Johnson and Evinrude tanks), information can be found @ http://shop.evinrude.com/dyn_prod.php?p=2%...er&k=116692. From what I am reading on this, it appears as though it could be used as a stabilizer in sleds? Anyone have a little more insight or am I totally smoked up? Thanks in advance.

"2+4" is made by Gold Eagle... and is basically near pure alky.... much the same as most automotive "dri-gas"... like Iso-HEET.

95% Isopropanol.

Which is why I currently only reccomend Marine Stabil (blue) or Star Tron if you want to use an additive... they are the only two I'm aware of at the moment that do not contain more alcohol and are designed with E-10s separation issues in mind.

and if you're looking for marine stabil in southern maine...... i've got it smile.gif just a couple minutes off the highway in scarborough. i've heard some places are having a hard time getting it with the demand it's in now, so if you can't find it, look me up.

have fun on your trip, i want to see tons of pics!!

I have been doing a ton of research on the E-10 stuff and my concern would be getting fuel that has already been sitting around. As stated do not use any thing with alcohol in it which is marine stabil, sea foam and i did not get the MSDS on star tron so i do not know on that.K-100 which is being recomended is right full of alcohol!! I use 2 oz. stabil and 2oz marval oil per 10 gal. of super just for insurance because research has also shown that ethanol can suspend the oil mixture in the fuel so it does not get to the rod bearings? I lost a crank in a 467 this year that has been fine since 1990 but they are also known for problems too coincidence? Just my 2 cents on E-10 and remember is that E-10,15 20 etc. you are pumping into that 10K sled. Hope the weather stays cold and have a great safe trip
