I would be moving from Michigan. How is the snowmobiling there? Right now i have to drive about 3 hours to ride in descent snow. Also how is the hunting? is there public land to hunt with easy access around salt lake city?

Plenty of places close by.... Travel time depends on where you are in Salt Lake/area...

Strawberry - Daniels Summit area is pretty nice... about 1 1/2 hours from SLC

We spend most of our time in the Franklin Basin which is in Utah and Idaho... (Not far from Garden City,UT)

The Soda Springs area is pretty nice too... (Idaho)

Live in Heber area myself, ride Strawberry alot, Soap Stone is great also. Think my favorite is Fairview.

Hello Fsusledder: Utah offers some of the best sledding in the country, the Unitah mountains are just an hour east of SLC and offer trail riding, Boon docking and high marking. North of SLC @ 1 1/2 hrs is the Toney Grove area and the same travel time south is Fairview. If you want to stick closer to town and ride trails you can trailer your sled to Guardsman Pass (30 minutes) .You will need to license your sled with the state, cost depends on age. As for Hunting most of the mountain areas are National forest and open to hunting (the Wasatch mountains east of SLC are closed to rifle hunting) , we have some of the best Elk hunting in the country and the deer herds are once again increasing. I have not hunted Ducks or Geese in quite a few years but the areas surrounding the Great Salt Lake have always been good especially the north eastern Farmington bay and Bear river sections 30 to 90 minutes from SLC.
Now is a good time to buy a home in SLC as the Housing market has been in a downturn for the last Two years.
