Does anyone know what the rules are on cans on the snowmobile in Canada? It's not that loud, but not sure if I need to put the stock can back on? Can anyone answer this please?

Thanks!

Don't even think about it. If you are coming here, TAKE IT OFF!!

Québec Laws

§ 9. Noise

26. A muffler containing baffles or equivalent noise reducing material shall be fitted to each exhaust pipe with which any snowmobile is equipped.

R.R.Q., 1981, c. C-24, r. 21, s. 26.

27. No snowmobile built after 1 January 1972 shall produce a sound intensity in excess of 82 decibels.

R.R.Q., 1981, c. C-24, r. 21, s. 27.

28. The sound intensity contemplated in section 27 shall be measured in accordance with SAE recommended practice J192, Exterior Sound Level for Snowmobiles, as presently in force or subsequently amended.

R.R.Q., 1981, c. C-24, r. 21, s. 28.

I was in mont-laurier on the weekend. Saw a NY registered snowmobile pulled over on the trail by the cops. The owner was very upset. I was about to ask him why he was so mad when I saw a tow truck pull up. Yep, they impounded his sled for thirty days because he had a modified exhaust (can).

Heed the warning, if your coming to Quebec, make sure your exhaust is factory.

Stupid? Stupid is thinking your sled goes faster just cause it sounds faster. If you don't like riding the trails in Québec, keep coming back with your loud exhaust. They will end up closing the whole darn system because of people like you.

From fcmq website.

Sector : Ste-Agathe / Mt-Tremblant / Labelle
Condition : Good
Comments : Ste-Agathe to St-Adolphe open. More details at club Ste-Agathe. WARNING: Trail 325 (Train du nord) still closed for 38 km between St-Faustin/Lac Carré and Labelle (court decision).
Last update: 2/20/2008

Court decision being NOISE. Noise due to loud exhaust

IT'S FORBIDDEN , too much exaggeration I guess .
I lived close to the trail , in the fields , and some of you guy should learn how to live headbang.gif . Seems like you guys are racing something , or you want to impress somebody . Looks like you want to wake up as more people as possible .
Now the trail has changed location , my neighbours closed the trail because they kept calling to complain about our disturbing sport . Now I have to do 2 km in fields to reach the groomed trails , and the trail has to do the hole tour of the village , guess what.......it was a BYPASS saving some 17 miles of S , thankx to those cans and heavy thumbs .

Agreed

Its almost like communist China here in Quebec. $200 plus just to put a trail pass on your sled and $100 to license it and they are still there looking to give you fines to fill the corrupted government pockets even more.

As far as the loud cans its just the drivers not knowing how to show a little respect. If your going by houses have some respect and keep off the throttle.

Loud exhausts close trails plain and simple! Leave your loud cans in the garage where they belong. I want to have a trail system to enjoy and I'm sure I'm not alone!
crfrider1
My Dynoport "can" is not as loud as a stock Apex. It is the idiots with the stingers, or race cans, not the trail cans that make all the noise. Mostly for weight loss only.
Lshobie
Grow up and ditch the cans, you are ruining the sport, you'll realize how much of a dumbass you are one day for running them.

Just my opinion.

crfrider1
Maybe you're the "dumbass" for not knowing what the hell you are talking about. Big difference between the aftermarket cans in noise levels. Some want to hear noise, some to save weight. Get a life !!
crfrider1
Most trails are closed because of noise. Any noise. Pipes or no pipes, can or no can. Most people that are complaining here and elsewhere, just do not want any kind of noise period. Have a little common sense and stay off the throttle in any residential area. A stock sled makes plenty of "noise" when we are not smart enough to use a little control !!!

AGREED

Stay away from our trails if you can't show respect to our community and our sport.
Go close trails where you live and let us ride ours.
Hell, even BRP is on our side, I really wonder who should get a life...
crfrider1
Take your stock sled and go through a residential area on the throttle and see what happens. Many trail cans out there are no louder than stock. Apparently you are missing the point that a little self control out there is needed by all. More trails have been closed because some people can't seem to stay within the marked trails. "Stay off the throttle in any sensitive area, and stay on marked trails". Kind of like gun control. It's not the gun but the idiot behind it.
Lshobie
They are annoying and doo very little for your performance. For the gain it isn't worth piffing everyone off. Most of the time you guys will grow out of that noisy stage - you probably have hondas with those annoying mufflers that do nothing for your cars.

I do alot of offroading, our trails are getting taken away more and more each year because of loud bikes, trucks that trash the forest and people who generally have a poor attitude, the same thing goes for sledders and the way they treat people on and off the trail. Respect it or lose it, you will want your kids to be able to trail ride in the future.

What part of stock exhaust don't you guys understand ?????
Ultrastryk
It does crack me up at how many guys don't realize the aftermarket pipes usually do nothing to increase horsepower. Especially when you consider how sensitve they make an engine to temp changes. You end up re-jetting when the temp drops 20 degrees to keep it dialed in. Just not worth the hassle.
