Full Version: Yellowstone? How to do it?

Greetings from the great white north, Alaska. My wife and I, both mid 50's, are very experienced riders and are going to be in Jackson Hole, WY the first week of March '08. We want to do a trip to Yellowstone to spend a day or so doing the "tour". We are capable of guiding ourself but would like to know just how to go about it. Also, I'm not made of money so it's a factor.
I have posted a few questions below, any and all help welcome and appreciated.

1. Should we just get with a guide service out of J.Hole?
2. Should we use a guide service at a town near the Park?
If so, where and who?
3. Should we drive ourselves to a town near the Park and rent equipment there for a self guided tour?
If so, where and from whom?
4. How many days should we plan on spending in the Park?
5. Is it better using a '2up' sled or each person having their own sled?
6. Any ideas on cost of Sled rental costs?
7. If overnighting in a town near the Park where to get a room.
Where to eat
Where to get an adult beverage?
Where to hear live music?

Thanks in advance to any and all who answered to this post. All suggestions and advise appreciated.

you should be able to call the park service for most of the info...2 up would be better as you hustle along on the tours and if you drive you dont get to see as much.. that way you could switch off...i think the sleds run around 175.00 a day..you have to use a guide...cant help you much more...i'd post this in general and you might make out better..good luck on the trip...T/A

There are several rental companies that you can rent from to ride in the park. You will find that renting sleds in Jackson itself they have to trailer the sleds out of town. If you plan on doing some riding other than in the park. Places like Crooked Creek Guest Ranch which is about 1 1/2 hours from Jackson do sled rentals, cabins, Meals and bar. They rent 2007 and 2008 Ski Doo Summits for $195.00 per day.
You can pull them up at www.crookedcreek-gr.com.
