MAJOR STUDY OF THE IMPORTANCE OF SNOWMOBILING IN MANITOBA UNDERWAY

How important is recreational snowmobiling to Manitoba?

A dated study performed in 1989, indicted that it contributed $150,000,000 to the Manitoba economy. Given that study is more than 15 years old, Snoman Inc. and its partners, the International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association and the Manitoba Snowmobile Industry Association has commissioned the University of Manitoba Transport Institute to prepare an updated assessment of this important recreational activity. Results will be released later in 2008.

When will the study be conducted?

Data for use in the analysis will be collected starting in early November 2007, with data collection through the 2007/08 riding season.

What type of information will be collected?

The Institute will be collecting data from snowmobilers in the form of a log of their activities and expenditures throughout the riding season. Data will also be collected from businesses that provide services to snowmobilers through a survey.

How can I help?

If you are an individual you can help by volunteering to maintain a monthly log of your snowmobiling activities and related expenses for the 2007/08 season and sending the data monthly to the Institute starting in November. If you are a business you can help by participating in the survey in which will be launched in January 2008.

How do I volunteer to fill in a log?

You can contact Stephen (204-474- 7466) or Danielle (204-474- 6798) at the Institute. All information in logs will be treated confidentially. Participants will be entered into a draw for 5 prizes to be awarded in April 2008. You may also contact Snoman at 940-SLED (7533).

How do I volunteer to participate in the business survey?

Your can follow the same approach. The Institute will also be contacting businesses identified to have a connection to snowmobiling in 2008. Data provided will be treated confidentially.
