You'll find all the big boys ride the mountains, not the trails up here. There are a couple of riding areas that have swamps or trail systems that are better for haulin ars, but if you are makin a special trip to ride AK, It's not worth it unless you get up in the mountains.

avvy's are to be taken seriously.... we had a big one at Turnagain pass in 1999 that killed 6 people.

Here is your best bet for getting to know the area as well as finding people who will take you there...Don't do anything to the sleds until you get a chance to see where you want to ride.

AMMOMAN Hey dude I'm military too and stationed at Elmo. I just picked up an '08 ski-doo and I'm looking for a riding partner. Drop me a line at jeff.timberlake@elmendorf.af.mil and let me know when you get in town.

Avy's are to be taken seriously! but, dont just let that stop you from riding. Go out and ride but, WEAR YOUR BEACONS! make sure you carry all your Avy gear with you but, please ride SMART and SAFE! and keep an eye out for your riding buddies, and people riding around you.

ride safe! biggrin.gif

The best Avy gear is your brain. TAKE AN AVALANCHE AWARENESS CLASS. The class is about avalanche avoidance, Beacons, shovels and probes are about body recovery. I always see these posts about what gear you should have. Education is the first thing to be acquired and yet it's usually the last thing suggested.

I personally think that if you have a young family, taking extreme risks is an irresponsible, selfish activity. Is a 2 minute rush worth leaving a wife and kids behind? NOT! But I'm just an old fart that puts family before self, so what do I know.

There's a free avy class Wednesday night 11/12/08 at REI. REI isn't putting the class on - it's just being done at REI's activity room. So don't go and get all REI is the evil enviro tree hugger group on me.

Come and learn how to avoid being a avy victim.
