I was wondering if anyone who rides or used to ride regularly in that part of Erie County knows why access to the powerline that somewhat parallels RT-99 & Oliver Road has been shut off? Most of it used to be used regularly 5+ years ago. What I mean is it seems that about 5 years ago it basically stopped. I only had a chance to ride it once about 15 years ago and it seemed like a nice main trail from McKean to Edinboro. It ran behind General McLane school and on into Edinboro where you could hit the eateries and fuel stops.
Is it more that people tend to ride roads now or was it just shut off?
Does anyone remember this power line / trail?

I'm guessing you mean the powerline just east of 99? I was on it when I kept my sled out @ my father inlaws house. I was doing some exploring one day about 5 years ago and came across 2 cross country skiers and they gave me a frown. May be the land owner. How about the trail that crosses 99 and goes back past the Caboos (sp) were they were supposed to build that church? I ride out of my Fathers house out towards wattsburg now.

I myself have CC ski tracks from Old State Road looking south towards the power line but it has been at least 4 years since I saw sled tracks. I know that opening to the power line is definitely blocked off but I had thought there was other access to it because I have seen where sleds have accessed it since it was blocked off. My point is this, that is one section of the power line what about the rest?
I have never seen anyone use the power line section, other than myself, from McLaughlin to Old State since I have lived out this way.
Problem is in recent years there has been little to no riding over it from Old State to Neelon RD or Neelon to Leacock, or Leacock to Crane Roads. The whole thing would seem odd to have it shut off. It makes me think that more newer riders prefer the roads VS trails. My other question is have we been forced onto the roads?

I think we should work at building the trail network. We have a great trail network now but there needs to be some old trails reopened and some new trails made. I hate road riding. We used to be able to ride the powerline from Edinboro to McLane or even McKean but the power line has been closed off for years however after one of the recent melts I saw someone took the power line from Old State RD near McLane towards Edinboro. It was an older sled you could tell because of the ski prints and track print.
