I rode the ANF northern area this weekend, and cannot recommend it for riding yet. The goomers packed the snow on Friday, but with no base and only light powder snow from 5 to 12 inches, the trail cannot support any sled traffic. There was gravel and big stones already kicked up from the light sled traffic from Marshburg to the Wllows, and it was a constant ski grinder. The road from the Willows to New York was ridable, but deteriorating with each rider. The corners were more brown than snow. New York State Park had groomed their trails, but were also without a base. Plus their trials had many springs still flowing a lot of water from all the rains, and there were many muddy water holes. These will freeze and disappear with more cold nights, but it is tough on the sleds right now. It was great fun to get out and ride, but the sleds do take a beating. If I had to travel any distance to ride these conditions, it wouldn't be worth it to me. We need some freezing rain and then another 6" of snow to make it decent conditions. I have to commend the ANF and NY State Park for grooming as soon as possible after the snowfall.
