You need to try out Kakwa, its 2 hours away from G.P. You guys in Grande Cache could try this area out as well. From what I here there is a way to get through. Not sure how, just that it can be done.

Im not sure if there is a way through or not. I know that years ago some guys made a trip to McBride, but that was 15 or more years ago.
I was thinking of a trip up the Kakwa river off of Hi-way 40 and going that route.I went up it last year 50kms nice sledding. But what I am wondering is,can you get around the falls if you went this route?
I figure it would be over 100kms to get to that point, but I have a large skimmer that has lots of room for fuel and overnight supplies..(beer).
If anyone is interested in planning something like that let me know.

It depends on how much snow we get and what kind of riding you like. There are endless deep cutlines
and trails in the area.As for some good mountain terain you have to head up to the caw ridge area which has some good riding when it is deep. If your ever in this neck of the woods let me know, gladly take you on a tour.

I live in GP and i am interested in going into the kakwa on wendsay or thursday, but will drive out to the Lick creek parking lot and ride in from there. A buddy was out there a couple of days ago and said the trail has about a foot and a half of snow on it. I just want to ride into the cabins and check out the snow in there i haven't been in there for over a year but I know the area a bit.

As far as rideing up the river i think you would be better off driving to the parking lot and riding in from there as it is still a 40 km ride to get in to the good mountians

I got to work tonight and tommorrow night but usally check this out when i get up. I probally won't reply today as it is one oclock and i have to work in a hour. My post time says 3 but it only 1 wtf

Its good to hear that the snow is good back there. I was thinking of doing the Kakwa river run just
to see if it can be done.It wouldnt be untill late Jan or early Feb when I would be doing it.I was just wondering if anyone else would be into the trip. As for going the way you go,I would also be up for a trip that way...thanks for the reply

I am a shift worker at the pulp mill so we will have to see if we can line up some days. There is two sets of falls on the kakwa the lower set should be easy to get around and the big falls i don't know I'll ask some of the guys at work if you can get around them or not.

I also work shift, but do get a lot of days off so Im sure we could work something out. Im sure that there would be a cutline or something that would skirt around them.I have a box of forestry maps,I will see if I have that area on a map. Cheers!

Hi all. I'm from Grande Prairie and spend alot of time working in the Grande Cache area, up along the trunk road and some of the canfor roads. Lots of cutlines in there that I'd like to tryout this winter. Where is the Caw ridge? I haven't heard of this area but would like to know if its good sledding. I got my new Renegade 800R X on Oct. 19th just before I went out to Edmonton for the snowmobile show. My first Ski-doo. I've been a loyal Yamaha rider but wanted to try this new xp out. I also have never been out to Kakwa but want to try it out this year. Good to hear there is snow out there as this weather around G.P is starting to get depressing.

I would be willing to get together with anyone to go for a ride some time and do some dooing!!!!!

The caw ridge area is off of hiway 40 just before you get to town. You have to ride an unplowed roadaround 35kms,then cut up into the area.If the snows good its a great place to sled. Will try to dig up some pics of it from the summer when I was quading there.
The road you turn off of is called the beaver damn road,a lot of quaders go there in the summer.
Im game anyone wants to come down here to check it out.....Cheers
