-Ride has been moved from the 13th to the 27th of January-

We'd like to get a big group of Doo-Talkers together for a big ride around Tug Hill, NY this year as we attempt to do every year. While everyone loves the idea, few actually commit and show up do to previous engagements, sled issues, etc. This year we're hoping for a big turnout, everyone from the site (and their riding partners) is invited and encouraged to show up and meet some new people from this great site. All riding abilities are welcome. The more the merrier! biggrin.gif

I think we could set a date for Saturday, January 27th around 9am so everyone can start planning. This is NOT set in stone, but can act as a basis for the time frame we will be aiming for. This way less people will have Christmas or New Year's arrangements, and (hopefully) we will have a good snow base on the trails. Saturdays seem to work best because few people have to work weekends, and the trails will still be in good shape early Saturday and into the evening because of low traffic.

Meeting location is also up for discussion, but should be some place close to I-81 or Rte. 12 for ease of travel. Redfield (western Tug Hill off I-81) and Constableville (eastern Tug Hill off Rte. 12) are the two most popular towns, as both have large parking areas, are near major highways, have gas, motels, food, etc.

Routes, mileage, and other matters concerning the ride can be discussed as the time gets closer and snow conditions are revealed. For those who can't make the exact date, there are usually several DooTalkers (including myself) in the area around that time willing to hook up and put on some miles with you. While this will be the "Big" ride, no one says we can't have numerous rides. checkeredflagg.gif

As I said b4, nothing is certain at this point. So feel free to chime in with your opinions. :revinmotion

Maybe I can make it there. I dont know if I can get a ride but I might be able to ride up there from syracuse. Is this possible and has anyone ever done it? What is the ride like and how long is it from syracuse to tug?

That's a possibility too, only problem is that it's a lot of extra driving for the people coming from the south up I-81. Another thing we could do (if we have a lot of people who want to get together) is form two groups, one starting on the West side and one starting on the East side, then we could meet up in the middle somewhere to ride as a group around lunch time. Just an idea, specific plans will be easier to make when the time gets closer. dance.gif

I plan on making it this year. right_on.gif I'm game for either drop point. Maybe start a vote on where the drop point is? Looking forward to it.

As an add on to the ride, you might be able to ride in to the Boonville fairgrounds. I know that they are bringing back snowmobile races this winter, oval and old sled. I know that its taking place sometime around January. Checking tomorrow for the exact date.

The Boonville winter fest group is tentatively planning races on January 27 and 28th. Not the 13th as I had thought.

The riding distance between Old Forge and Redfield isn't too bad when cut in half, so maybe we could do the "Two Group" thing if enough people are committed. Everyone wants to go but something always comes up near the scheduled date. A big group would be awesome though! checkeredflagg.gif

THT... We WILL be in OF that weekend and we love the riding over to the hill..... we jsut have to keep our fingers crossed that there will be enough snow that we can get down 10mile rd and through Brantingham..... after that we have it made... Other wise we will have to trailer over... sad.gif Its aprox 1 hr from our door in OF to Highmarket...... so I guess it all depends on where the final meeting place will be................ riding.gif

Coming from the east side....The Edge hotel like i have heard others say?
OR.........Maybe just a "general" meeting place like the Timberview could be a good place to meet especially if people like us are riding up from Brantingham rather than running over to Highmarket.... and people dropping at either Tuggers/Montague it would be a quick run to th T'View?? I would need to know where to meet you guys... Have never ridden Tug Hill before, and therefore know none of the trails... where would the best place for me to drop off and meet you guys... I have a 24' enclosed, so keep that in mind when telling me where to drop off because i have to be able to get into and outa there.....

Below are links of driving directions for me to get to either Redfield or to Old Forge..... Old forge is closer for me, what do you guys think???

Salisbury, NY to Redfield, NY Mapquest Directions

Salisbury, NY to Old Forge, NY Mapquest Directions

IMO it would be better to keep groups in sizes of 10 or less sleds, and maybe the groups could meet some place for lunch and dinner.... Otherwise there is too much Fuc*ing around to get through the trails and to get going after any stops.... Just a suggestion, thats all.... Break it up so those that want to ride fast can go together, and those that want to lolly gag can go together..... IDK, what do you guys think?????

We're not going to stick someone by themselves and expect them to navigate the trails they've never been on to meet us somewhere. Everyone will park their trucks/trailers together in either one or two locations, get ready as a group, then take off on the ride. The faster paced guys can ride out front and simply wait for the second wave at the next stop sign, not a big deal. I hope we do have enough people interested so we can form two groups, that'd be a record turnout for sure! checkeredflagg.gif

Josh it would be wise to unload on the east side of the hill. Old Forge requires a permit to ride thier trails.

I've kinda been hosed for getting the 13th off. What I thought was good is looking kinda ugly. Wouldn't be too big a deal except for the 800 mile drive to NY and then back all in a weekend. So I will try to keep this date but it's looking like a possible no show. The week of Jan. 1st and then the 27th weekend thru the following week looks good for me. Not saying to change the dootalk ride date but maybe get something else going on a different date? Sorry about the possible back out-AGAIN!!! Ya just can't find good help these days!

Seems like Carny and Ziff are always up here, and i'll be here from mid-December through mid-January, so there'll be people to ride with whenever you can make it up. But like I said before, nothing is definite at this point. The date could be moved to a different weekend depending on what conditions and schedules look like, but if you can work something out to get the 13th off that'd be great. Good luck!
