Ok, I got the white tube out. It was a wrestling match, but I won.
HOWEVER: I'm not sure that's a good idea. The gas lid screws on more softly now, no positive "ok, that's enough". There is a foam gasket in the cap and I think it's seating against the gasket now instead of the tube. The gasket pulled away from the edge of the groove it sits in. And the top edge of the tank isn't wide enough or smooth enough to support that foam gasket............me thinks..............
Check yours out before you jump in there.
I'm thinking about putting a clear tank on if the gauge is as inaccurate as it seems to be. So if that cap needs the tube I'll know better.
There is a lot more room for filling now, and I can see when it's getting full. Your choice.
