I was one of the many that bought USI SPX skis last year and found them way tough to steer. Yes I played with setup without much improvement and then tried their bending of the carbide solution. It helped a bit.

I was just on their website and downloaded their new catalogue. They now have a product "Power Steering Plates" on page 6 that appears to accomplish the rocker effect of bending the carbide upwards. I might pick up a set at the Toronto show and see if they help. Just wanted to let people know about this new product.

In hindsight I wish I didn't let their sales rep at the Toronto show last year talk me into the SPX's. They like everyone to believe they are Blair Morgan and need the most aggressive ski. I think on a Rev chassis the VX is likely the best USI ski for the majority of aggressive trail riders. Just my 2 cents.

I had the same hard steering issue with USI SPX skis last year. The solution that I found came from Bergstroms carbides. I had a long, and very informative, talk with the Bergstroms folks. The problem, they said, is that the skis are not properly balanced. The solution is to use the shim that they sent me along with their carbides. The shim is placed beneath the back of the rubber ski grommet (?) between it and the ski itself. This places more weight on the back of the ski and makes it easier to turn. Doo a search on this site and you will find a lot more info on the subject.

The USI's are good skis but the Bergstrom carbides and shims definately improve the hard steering issue much more than any fix that USI suggested. Just my 02.

Good luck.
